Somehow the pic with "the hills" got omitted.

Yeah, they are hard to make out. In the background of the second photo there is a gray blue area that is one of the hills. Instead of avoiding them this year I’m look to climb a few.

Cheers,

Scott

In this pic just above the handlebars in the center is one of the hills I was referring to. It’s nasty (at least for me).:) It’s ~15% at its steepest.

Scott

I got out and rode this morning for 16 hard to find miles. It takes me a bit to figure things out but when you are on an island there is only so far you can go. Oh, and if the roads are chip seal those lost miles.

We are at Padre Island National seashore and on the park I have found 13 mile ride. With this sign at the beginning/end.

Felt good to be out

After my last few rides having to be on the trainer because of snow on the ground and/or cold temps, I finally hit the road. Only an eighteen mile ride, but still enjoyable, even with the temps in the mid forties. Every ride I start from home has to take me along the bay and the wind was coming off the water making it colder because of the moist air. But once I headed inland it was warmer. Of course the end of the ride was the same cold but I was warmed up by then. Good thing I went when I did because it Is now raining.

Got out today in 35 deg F temps. Coffee break at the Cut Bridge in Gloucester. The bridge tender never raised the bridge for me to steam out to the harbor.

I was able to get out and ride this morning by 930 which is my preferred time for starting. The ride was 22 miles and some of the miles were even beach miles. The best riding I have found yet.

This was one the nicest days we've had in quite a while in my area of Tx. I did a 16 mile morning ride, then decided to get out mid afternoon for 8 more.

essiemyra 02-25-24 01:36 PM

Another nice day for riding. Today’s ride was all on the beach. I got a 13 mile ride in. Sunny blue skies with temp in the 60’s.

I was able to get out for a 21 mile ride today also in Gloucester. Gloucester Virginia. :D

Lesson learned for today. Replace shoe cleats. Right foot was coming out. Forgot about a half mile from home. Foot came out and hit the deck at about 23 mph. Second lesson is remove wedding band when riding. Got a nice gash on front of the ring. Cleaned and bandaged. May take a bit to heal.

Winter came back for the past four days with cold temperatures and wind but today was sunny and 57 so I was able to get out for a ride. Rode down into town and climbed back out, around 15 miles total. I kept looking for an interesting spot to take a pic for the first part of the ride but as I rolled back into my neighborhood I realized I didn’t take one.

Cheers,

Scott

Way too windy for me today.

I must say that I am in awe of the scenic routes many of you ride though. Simply beautiful. Thanks for posting the photos.

I rode "the usual" 56-mile Tucson Loop today with a new addition, a climb up Sentinel Peak. I don't know why I never thought of that before. The Loop routes right along the base of the hill near downtown. It's also known as "A" Mountain because in 1915 U of A students built a big letter "A" facing town. It added 5 miles and almost doubled the climbing, for a total of 1,300'. Here's a photo in a rock shelter near the summit, showing the road up.

Due to the wind, I wasn’t able to ride today. I did ride yesterday out on the beach for a 10 mile ride. The weather was nice and sunny with a headwind on the way out and a tailwind on the way back.

I'm envious!

Not today ... but thought I'd share my less-than-professional ride report from the Arrowhead 135 last month: https://bikesbeersstuff.blogspot.com...ltra-year.html

I got out early this morning before the high winds came in, and rode for 10 miles. At one point I looked to my left and thought the heavy low hanging dark gray clouds could be a tornado in the making. I continued on and was back home before any high winds appeared.

Went out for a couple hours cruising around town. Went ~18 miles. This week is looking pretty good for getting some rides in. Looking forward to it.

My wife has had Covid so we didn't go to church today. I used the morning to get out on the MUP for 15 miles. I should have went out later to have my growler filled at the brewery but I worked on a cassette and rear derailleur that was making a weird noise. Turned out one of the tabs on the 44 year old plastic Shimano spoke protector was broken so I made extra sure the limit screws were set well after I removed it.

37°F, (2.8°C) 50MPH (80KMH) gusts, hail, sleet, thunder & lightening, at one point it even snowed! It was invigorating and exciting. I went 29.7 miles in just over 2 1/2 hours. I have never moved so fast on the flats as I did when that tailwind caught me. When I returned home I felt more like I'd spent a day snowmobiling than I did cycling. A hot shower followed by a hot cup of java was never more appreciated. Then I had to swap chains because I'm sure the elements cleaned off all the wax so it's ready for a repeat tomorrow. Hurrah!:thumb:
