I was out riding today for 21 miles on the route that takes me by the bay. The wind was gusting at about 18 mph and kept me comfortable, no sweating.

Another trip to the dam to find that the pedestrian walkway has still not been re-opened. Rode for about 1:30 and turned on the lights for the last 0:15.

These guys weren't moving for anybody. Another cyclist rode ride past them as I was getting out my phone and I thought they would get spooked away.

Upriver at the dam still has lots of ice.

Another beautiful day for a bike ride! Today I got out "early" when it was only 70F, hoping to make it home before it got hot. Didn't quite make it back (correlated with riding too long and far for my current fitness?) in time. Headwinds slowed me down on the outward leg, and wore me out so I didn't quite enjoy the tailwind riding home.

Hard to believe there are basically no trees leafing out when it's 78F. The Bradford pears are flowering, and a few of the purple flowering magnolias are budding, but most of the cherries, dogwoods, and redbuds are being reticent. I shouldn't say anything about the grass not growing, or else I'll have to start mowing Real Soon Now.

I got out to ride yesterday before the storms. 81° and cloudy and humid. Nice day for a ride around the lake.
Start mowing? I had to mow my weeds yesterday! 😆

It's warming up and all the snow and ice is melting away. Winter is slowly coming to an end. It was very foggy this morning very poor visibility.

I never thought about it but riding in fog would be like an Alfred Hitchcock episode.

Needed to do a little maintenance before I could ride today. On my last ride, a cleat came loose (I tightened it during the ride but checked both again), my rear brake cable locked up (a lot of grit and sand in the bottom bracket cable guide), and I got a flat tire in the last couple of blocks (a sliver of copper punctured through at the corner of a knobby). Rode for about 2:10 which included another trip to the dam to see if the walk/bikeway was open. It wasn't but at least they updated the programmable construction sign to say closed through 3/13.

Elm Creek Dam about 5 miles upriver from Coon Rapids Dam. This is the 4th dam built at this location and this one was built in 2016.

The wife and I got out for 18 miles this morning.
One of the better rides we've had in a while. Great weather for a change.

I rode my regular Sunday route that I've not been riding regularly because I got a text yesterday from a young lady I mentored in a half marathon training program years ago. She does 1/2 Ironmans now. Every once in a while she will want to ride with me to catch up on things. I'd rather she join me on my Saturday coffee spin and visit over a hot cup of coffee and a pastry, but I will let her beat me like a rented mule on the hills for 18 miles just because I appreciate she still appreciates me.

And she did well with the cold. It was 34 when we started and warmed up to 37. I'm pretty sure she ordered shoe covers today though.

Spring has sprung. Maybe not officially. 20 miles, about half into a 15 mph headwind. The Winter indoor sessions suck, but they help maintain fitness for sure.

I did ride today. Not my usual bike nor did I remember to track my miles. I rode with my husband and he enjoyed the ride.

Nice 30 mile loop today ... Yesterday it hit 75 degF ... today it never got higher than 43 degF . But, it didn't rain!

I got out for a 24.5 mile ride very pleasant ride today.

essiemyra 03-13-26 05:39 PM

I rode for about 20 miles today but my ridewithgps has only 15.6 as I had stopped for a break and was looking at my phone and must have stopped recording and the next time I looked at the phone it read "stopped recording" so I hit resume and it brought me to where I was located but
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e17271fd92.jpg
in a straight line which was not where I had ridden. Oh well, even if the miles aren't recorded they were still ridden and I enjoyed my ride.

letrebici 03-13-26 09:24 PM

Yep, Essiemyra, that happens with phones running GPS trackers, on occasion. stop to take a photo and after that the ride does not resume. it is partially an app setting thing. I use a Garmin computer most of the time, so glitches are less likely, but still happen. The important thing is you had a nice ride! I ran two errands on the bike and didnt record. I did record my morning exercise ride. It's all good!

pepperbelly 03-13-26 10:37 PM

I went for a lap around my local lake.
70° sunny with a 15mph south breeze.
A perfect day to ride.

pdlamb 03-14-26 09:01 PM

Lollygagged a bit this morning, waiting for the temperature to rise. Left home about 11 when it was 65F and headed down to the river. TVA must be clearing out the upstream lakes, since the river looked striated -- large turbules flowing downstream, but still more or less coherent. Sunny, clear, light breezes, nice day for a ride. After a snack break, I headed home feeling like I was turbocharged -- attacking the hills I usually gear down to climb, in the big ring the rest of the way (at least for the first 13 miles). Redbuds are out, and the cherries are filling out.

Part way home I passed a gas station and thought, "It's a good thing I don't have to buy gas to go to work -- I can ride my bike instead!" Prices were up nearly 50% from three weeks ago, from 2.26 to 3.19. Ouch! Then I remembered: I'm retired, I don't have to go to work any more. 37 miles, 2 mini Snickers bars.
