20 km

LAriverRat 01-14-11 06:54 PM

28 miles, 80 degrees, sunny with some high clouds, almost no wind. Started late but it was a very good ride. Wanted to HTFU but why? It's beer thirty right now. Are you ready for some FOOTBALL!

50 miles, temp from 55-74, blue sky, no wind, about 1600 ft of climbing - fantastic ride! Already looking forward to doing another tomorrow.

Beautiful weather: started in upper 40's, but finished over 60. 33 miles with 3100 feet of climbing all of which is in an 11 mile stretch. It was a sufferfest with a few stops and a short hike on a 16% stretch near the top.

First MTB ride in a couple of months. It was a nice, sunny afternoon and around 50F. It was a fairly casual ride with the bike club.

Our first ride on our new Recumbents, it finally got warmish and the ice is mostly off the roads so Jo picked up her R-bike (I got mine on Friday) and we did a bit of "parking lot" rodeo to make sure she was comfortable enough to head out on the roads and trails. We didn't get in a long ride, 15 miles or so but we really like these R-bikes, pretty much the "opposite" of most of the folks here, these machines are PURE smell the roses bikes. We stopped at the "Coffee Exchange" downtown for "Lemon Cake" to die for", LOL. The clouds rolled in and the wind picked up so we headed home, hope tommorw is good enough to get in some more miles! :)

50 miles, 3000'+ of climbing. Clear (finally) and chilly at the start - high 40s, low 60s at the end. A good day to be on the bike.

Saw by the weather report that I could gain about 10 degrees by riding south from DC to Yorktown/Williamsburg/Jamestown, so I hit the road early. I did the Colonial Parkway mostly, which is as bone-jarring as usual, but still a nice flat ride. On the way from Yorktown to Williamsburg there was an unpleasant detour that got me onto some pretty heavily trafficked roads. On the way back I decided to take my chances and sneak around the detour barriers. It was a good decision. I had the road all to myself for about five miles, and the only problem was one small unpaved section, and a spot where an ice sheet covered the whole road for about 20 feet.

The parkway has a canopy of bare tree limbs that cover the road. I had a really cool encounter with a bald eagle that was flying UNDER the trees just ahead of me on the road. I chased it for at least a couple of hundred yards, as it was just above and ahead of me. Beautiful!

We rode 25 easy miles yesterday, 1/15. Temp started out at 38, ended up in low 40's, but it sure felt colder!

Forgot to mention - that's bbacker (l) and el segundo (r) in first pic and el segundo and I in the second pic.

Glades2 01-16-11 01:11 PM

I rode 20K yesterday and 25K today, though today's ride was more strenuous than yesterdays due to the almost ever-present moderate headwind or crosswinds on at least part of the ride - I even passed another cyclist at 16.6 mph, so happy with the results for someone who's in his mid-50s who has always been a touring (15 mph) cyclist...

pmcq 01-16-11 02:05 PM

40 miles today with a group of 10 including two men, which is very unusual for my biking group. We are almost always just women. We had a few hills - nothing special - about 2,000 ft elevation gain on a beautiful SoCal morning - started in the 50s and finished in the 70s. Should hit low 80s today - I'm off to the beach for the afternoon.

I would love to have some above freezing temps:(

Allegheny Jet 01-16-11 02:48 PM

42 miles of high cadence under cloudy skies, nearly calm wind, and 18 degrees. Some sections of the open road were snow and ice covered elevating the pucker factor a few points.

seedsbelize 01-16-11 05:28 PM

60 km race. finished in under two hours. 10 miles to and ten miles from.

LAriverRat 01-16-11 05:41 PM

55 miles, some high clouds, bone chilling 70 degrees when i left and warmed up to about 80. Almost no wind again. Hit 32.8 mph and i don't know why. I gained weight and am not even working out. Every ride this year have hit at least 30 mph or more. Must be the Dark Chocolate Kit-Kats i eat at night. I have been using the big chain wheel most of the time. It's beer and football now.

bjjoondo 01-16-11 06:07 PM

15 more miles on the new recumbents, just wish we could get a day, that was a bit warmer ;) Mainly back streets and the main MUP, (Pikes Peak Greenway) up to where it turns to dirt at Woodman Ave. So far so good, were quite happy with our recumbents, might lead to a life long change! :)

You sir, are my new hero!

32 mile road ride with a few guys from the bike club. A beautiful sunny day with temps in the mid 50s. Loving the new Roubaix.

horatio 01-16-11 08:01 PM

28-miler today. Temps in the low 50s with lots of sun and light winds. Still plenty of melting snow and ice around, and wet road salt spray all over me and the bike. Still it was a great day for riding! Can't wait 'til Spring is here.

MinnMan 01-17-11 12:18 AM

Spending the long weekend riding in Las Vegas, escaping the Minnesota cold. It's great to remember what it feels like to ride a road bike on a warm dry road (First time on a road bike in 2.5 months!). Did the Red Rock Canyon Loop trail yesterday (36 miles from my start in town) and today did 55 miles with the Las Vegas Valley Bicycle Club - a very friendly bunch of people and a great ride! I was afraid that I'd lost much of my fitness and though I have lost some, the ride today felt great -even on the climbs.

Tomorrow, I"'m headed over to the River Mountain Loop trail over by Lake Mead.

Yes! 45 miles with the Tuesday group. Lots of climbing, which I am getting stronger at. It was a good ride today, despite one of my girlfriends having a low speed crash (she's okay, mostly embarrassed). You just can't turn around on a steep hill in too tall a gear! Anyway...

Hard work paying off. Good for you Sarals!

I haven't been on my bike for over 6 wks because of the snow on the roads. I cycle and work out at the gym as best I can.

Monoborracho 01-17-11 07:51 PM

I left the office at 4:30 PM and cranked out 33 miles, using the lights to get back home. My avg speed was up about 1.5 - 2 mph on this route after having cortisone injections in both knees last Thursday.

It was clear, 10 mph wind till the sun went down, 65 when I left and about 58 when I got back home. Ya' gotta love the Texas hill country in the winter (mostly).

rdtompki 01-18-11 09:13 AM

We're having a spell of great weather and yesterday was no exception. Did a 15+ mile coffee run on the tandem in 60 deg temps with sunny skies. Averaged 16.6 which isn't bad considering stops and warm-up. Today I can really feel the effect of weight training and riding on alternate days - I'm sore, but it's a good sore I think. At my age assuming a 1% loss of strength under ideal conditions from 40 y/o on I can only be 77.78%;) of what I was back then. It would be great to even sniff that:)

Phil85207 01-18-11 11:37 PM

The weather was great, 45 at the start and 75 at the end. Great ride.
