The Diego kill off is a very sad story.

I still hate the Mods for killing the Diegos.

The Diegos was a group of personas of a very creative BF poster that was often great for a good laugh. As most know, it is against forum rules to have more than one logon name, and for good reason. So the Diegos were technically in violation but not really outside the spirit or actual intent for the rule. Each Diego was identified by the word Diego in each persona’s name, so everyone knew it was a single BF poster.

It's a lot of work, and everytime I make gelato, I get in trouble for using up all the eggs in the house. Pizza is easier, and a lot more popular with Mrs. Gravity Aided, due to the egg thing. I may have to get chickens. They may cut into my cycling opportunities, just to keep on topic.

The intent of this forum is actually not that clear. We may all cycle, and all be over 50, but there's actually very little relating to age to be said. It's not like I ride diferently than I did when I was 49.

On the "off topic" stuff, to my way of thinking, if you want to talk about your health and your wife and your gallbladder and your kids and a lot of other unrelated topics, that's better discussed in real life with actual friends and family than with semi-strangers on a forum. I don't object to it being here, but don't see much reason to post it, either. Forums are good and fine, but shouldn't be a substitute for personal interaction. So I come to the forum here, and there may be a thread I'm interested in, and another I'm not, and that's fine, I'll read one and pass over the other and no problem. I don't see that the forum is getting too cluttered, so I don't see a lot of motivation to start moving stuff around.

If the only forum you visit on this site is the over-50, I think you're missing quite a bit. I'm over 50, I'm overweight, I ride a road bike, on long distance rides, ride a tandem, have cargo bikes, ride "generally", for recreation, so there's a lot of different categories that include content of interest to me. If I'm going to disregard stuff written by 49-year-olds because they're not 50, that seems to be a rather pointless limitation. In real life, most of my co-riders are around my age, but some are a few years younger, some a few years older, and I appreciate them all. One of the frequent contributors to the tandem forum is 80 or so, and I'm glad he doesn't confine his activities to the over-50 forum; he adds a lot to the tandem forum.

For me, I am not too interested in dropping by the nursing home or sitting at McDonald's for a two hour breakfast. The last doctor that I asked to give me some creme for a saddle sore, decided it must be herpes.

I much prefer discussing health issues with those interested in staying fit and who have a range of experiences on the topic.

At 59, I do ride slower than I did at 49, but I am looking for ideas of how to get that 49er speed back.

Well...that is one of the reasons why I like coming to this forum.

I go to the C&A forum to read about issues relating to being overweight (although if all goes according to plan in a month I may no longer be eligible to visit the C&A forum ).

I go to the C&V forum to read up on classic bikes.

I go to the Road forum because I am a roadie.

Nowhere else on BF, however, are the posters as polite and easy going as most of the posters here are.

On the subject of "off topic" I disagree some what. In as much as this is as stated over 50, some "old age" health issure are relevant to this forum. As we get older it is natural for some people to have health issues related to cycling and their questions and views would seem to fit in here. We never stop learning.

That's the way I see it too. It's amazing to me that anyone thinks there's a "problem" here. And, as I've said before, the best part of 50+ is that we come together because we are cyclists but we don't limit our 50+ wisdom to cycling topics. To me this is the essence of community and I'm happy to have this forum.

As I posted before, this situation has come up in the past (and some of the complaining posters were here for that one as well)

The mods might ask Dminor about the history of 50+ and some of the concessions made to this unique forum as he helped smoothing it out last time.

Many of the posters here have been posting here for years. If that leads to a feeling of familiarity, possibly deemed to be a clique by some, it's understandable but harmless.

Exactly what is the purpose of 50+ under the proposed new rules. Is there anything that is 50+is that can't be covered in other forums?

Perhaps, because I've been posting here for 10 years I don't see the problem.

I don't think of it as a clique but there is clearly is a core group of people who have a connection. I don't feel part of it but it doesn't bother me. That all comes with interactions over time and we all "pay our dues" to get there. I'm good with that...it's just life.

If I understood things way back then, DnvrFox had a hard time convincing the then Admin that a 50+ forum would be worthwhile because there were no cycling subjects that could not be pigeon holed into some other sub-forum. Think how sad it would have been if DnvrFox have not been such a persistent, cliquish, crotchety, old kuss.


PS - Sorry for using the word old and DnvrFox in the same sentence. Also, sorry for the inside joke and being so cliquish. Anyone else wanting to know the inside joke to be cliquish as well, just ask.

I will ask one more thing at a risk to myself. PLEASE don't Mod us to death. I consider this a reasonable request. If I find some person's posts habitually distasteful I just put them on ignore. Periodically I look at their current posts to see if maybe I was just a bit extreme at the time. Time for more Pi filling.
