morgothaod,
Do not you have steps to follow on your kit or glue? Usually there are and they are the best for the glue.
I have patched tubes using similar kits and just pieces of another tube in combination with glue for rubber. I never had a problem with the patch.
But I always press the patch overnight by something really heavey like bed. Couple of times i tried to put tube in the wheel and pump it up to 58 PSI right after patching and it worked well too.
I hope it was just a bad luck for you and you will not have this problem any more.

If you put it in the wheel and pump it is almost the same as put a bed on it.
If you keep it outside the wheel after patching, then I probaly can avoid bed-step next time.

I've done it both ways, most of the time I put it back into the tire, but when those times I can't fix the tube without taking too much time I then install a new tube and fix the flatted tube at home and then that tube goes into the saddle bag...uninflated of course of the seat bag would look really odd. By the way, I did the same thing years ago when I used glue on patches as I do now using glueless patches.
