Singlespeed/Freewheel question
Can I make any wheels singlespeed/freewheel? I want to buy these wheels on ebay but it's for a geared bike, is there a way for me to swap out the hub or sprocket to to make them freewheel?
BTW they're the ZIPP 1080 carbon wheelset

Easiest way is to buy a single speed conversion kit for your freehub, which is basically a set of spacers and at least one cog. These kits are common for Shimano 10-11 freehubs. You remove the cassette and install the cog and spacers to get the best chainline. some kits also come with a chain tensioner if you plan to use this on a bike with fixed dropouts.

Not easily. Look for track wheelsets if you want modern carbon singlespeed wheels.

I really like the thick carbon look, makes it look aggressive.

You ask about wheels without providing information about the frame you chose. If the frame is designed as a geared road bike, setting it up as a singlespeed may be problematic. when asking a question, the more information you provide, the more useful the answers will be

Campagnolo Strada, Pista, Phil Wood, or any of a number of flip flop hubs . 120 is a 5 speed freewheel or track width
threaded axles, shuffling spacers to center the hub and a single speed freewheel , is KISS Simple, for a Mechanic.

Your frame is spaced at 120 mm in the rear, the wheels you want are spaced at 130, so it is not doable. Your frame is made of aluminum so it cannot be spread wider for fear of cracking.
Your choices, buy a frame with 130 spacing and go with the cog and spacer kit for the wheels. You will most likely need a chain tensioner or eccentric bottom bracket if it doesn't have horizontal dropouts.
Buy the frame and find a different set of wheels. Zipp and others make carbon wheels for track bikes.
Good luck.

(Surely the OP will run at least a front brake on the road on a FG on the road?)

edit: FW is the plan, F&R brakes are required.
edit: CF wheels designed for the velodrome, and some CF road wheelsets, are most likely designed for tubular tires, which are an entirely different critter than the clincher tires commonly used by road riders. Look up both types if unfamiliar with the terms and find out all info from the Mfg before purchasing wheels.

Not all CF track wheels are meant to be used on the open public roads as they are designed for the Velodrome which rarely has potholes or man-hole covers to run over at pace. Also brake tracks may not be designed in a CF track wheel as well. (Surely the OP will run at least a front brake on the road?)
Find out from the Mfg before purchasing wheels.
