I went for a quick 11 miles today after work. I was hoping to miss the rain; I didn't. I rode in pouiring rain and hail. Half of the way the rain was gone (strangly the northern half of my route was dry) until I turned south again. It was fun! After I loaded my bike up and drove home I hit a 10-12" deep section of water on the roads. Whee, why couldn't I have found that on my bike... |
Wow... I think that rain hit Madison (SinGate and I live about 30 miles apart) early in the afternoon... I justed waited the storm out to ride home from work...

Im not adding all my k's...don't have time to work it all out.
Great site, loving it. Am going for a podium finish in the local U19 TT this weekend. Will have to make sure I post that average! 25mph or there abouts for 20km. AND if I ever get my hands on the bastard who stole my saddle bag out of my bag at the library today I'm gonna literally half kill the **** Rant over |
Hey gl on your TT!
I have a corporate one next Friday. WooHOO let's hear it for the riding season. |

I wish you tailwinds... and headwinds for your rivals..;) |
Well I've got my first event this weekend. I'm going to be doing my first mtn bike race and what better way to do it then a 12 hour team event! Should be a blast and also very tough, but also rewarding.
If you are in the area, or plan on doing the race yourself (never know who shows up from the mid west) lets try and meet up. Race info: http://www.wemseries.com/Sugar_Creek_04.html Cheers, Clint |
Helmets are not required for safe riding, true. But they ARE required if you have a serious accident that exposes you to potential trauma to the head. A helmet can literally save your life and at least prevent more serious injuries. Since you have no idea when that accident might occur, a helmet is a wise decision. Every time I come home from a ride w/o wrecking, I know I didn't need my helmet. But to not wear it the next time would be foolish since that one driver who saw me at his driveway and stopped might not be so attentive next time (or it might be his redneck brother). A helmet is a preventative measure. You don't need it until you have an accident, then you'll be glad you were wearing it... If I ride the rest of my life and never need my helmet, I'll be a happy person, but I'll never regret that I wore it...

Did I miss a topic about helmets in this thread? If I did... I think helmets should be used 100% of the time. I had a teammate (2 in fact) go down last year and she is alive today cause she was wearing a helmet. It was a major crash and she was out of it for a few days afterward and had to stop riding for the rest of the year... better then death though!

BTW I assume you all read the article in the recent issue of Bicycling Magazine about a cyclist who got hit by a truck. The driver hadn't driven in 10 years and simply didn't look in the mirrors, cutting the cyclist off who hit the truck at a fair clip. If I remember correctly, he related that, after being airborne for a few seconds, he landed on his head/shoulder before rolling a bit. If he hadn't had a helmet, it would've been titled "He got hit by a truck" instead of "*I* got hit by a truck". The problem w/ bike riding is not *you*. It's the other guy/gal in a car with no clue of where you are or at least no concern... I don't put on a seatbelt because *I'm* gonna wreck (I'm a very safe drivier) but because some other moron is gonna run into me...

Hee Hee, ya get that sparkling new frame dirty! ;)
|
Already have... ;)
I had some trouble with my Klein mtn bike a few weeks ago and the great folks at Trek (Trek owns Klein) had me up and running again in time to do this race. If anyone is considering a Klein I would like to pass on my thoughts that not only does my Klein ride great, the customer service was spot on.

Hurt (possibly broke) my thumb this past Sunday and can't ride. I hear the road calling but I can't answer. I'm hoping to heal enough to ride this weekend. Carl you have a freebe week, but watch out cuz next month the distance totals will change to my favor.
-SinGate |
haha! I was wondering why I took 4 days off and you didn't catch up. :D I'll certainly make use of the freebie week, but I have to tell you that my mileage will (hopefully) be going up this summer as well. I'm a high school teacher and will be done tomorrow. That means I get 2.5 months of "doing nothing" and getting to focus on riding :D I have a metric century in June (nothing in July yet) and a century in August, followed by my two-day on Oct. hehe You may win, but I'm not going down w/o a fight!!! :D
Anyway, rest that thumb. I hate the thought of a fellow cyclist "grounded". You'll be fine in no time. Heck, it's just your thumb. Get out there and practice riding w/ no hands! 2 miles/day is better than none! LOL Seriously tho, I hope you get better soon. This little "race" has been a great motivator and I think we're both benefitting... Now, we just have to decide who is Lance and who's Ulrich ;) |

No please please can't I be Lance?! I work for Trek after all. I agree Carl the added modivation provided by our bet has been helpful. I won a time trial last Friday in part due to riding a few more miles to keep up with you. |
Awesome SinG! And as for Chris L being Lance, I think it's the other way around: Lance wants to be Chris L! :D

FYI...
The ISP hosting Activebody.org are having issues with a networking switch that is effecting about half of the servers. All I know is they are working on the issue. During this time, the site might run a little "hot and cold" |
You'll probably be able to get the jump on me in the climbing stakes, I won't get any decent climbing until at least Thursday. Well, I am first in Colorado and in my age group - so THERE! |
