I got a ticket from the SPD one 45mph in a 30mph zone. I hung it on the wall at work I was proud of it. Of course I was young and crazy then

Sweet.. if you can find one where you can go uphill at walking pace only, you'll be going downhill at like 60.

nice. I hit almost 60 in a 35mph zone going down a hill here in Cincy last summer. What a rush! Luckily, I had to stand on the granny gear and mash back up the hill (on a triple, even!). After a few minutes of that, I said this is nuts and ended up walking up most of that hill.

most of the time I STILL find cranking away in a 22/32 gear to be quicker than walking even at like 40rpm...kinda sad.

Where?!?!
----
PWRDbyTRD: That's fast for a commuter bike! The fastest I've gone on my road is 55, so 47 is nuts! But it's great isn't it?

Boy I would love to take my trike down there I think 60 might be a real possibility as long as the surface is smooth enough.
And on a more serious note BE CAREFUL a cyclist was killed here recently plumeting down one of our bigger hills.

I would like to know where that hill is. So I can avoid it!

]My Kona is more less a commuter bike, but it's a clydesdale XC bike....I've gone to slicks on it and put stiffer springs in it. I was going to put a rigid fork on it, but then I decided to just get a more road oriented bike, but I still may go rigid if I go to a full fledged commuter if I have to work 12 miles from home. The red rocket is ALMOST ready to be assembled. I have to finalize my parts list order monday and then everything will be on it's way to knoxville. I am excited.

Fastest I've gone with my speedometer on was 34 I think, down a really long dirt hill that left me half dead on the way up. Good thing is, you don't have to pedal much for 2 miles on the way down :/

In town, there's a ********ly steep paved hill, I've probably hit close to 40 on that.. No point staying on the side of the road if you go as fast as the cars down it, heh.
Were your eyes watering because of the wind? Mine do when I go not even that fast, I have to squint really hard and blink a lot to see.

I hit 48 MPH going down a long hill in a residential zone today on my road bike, chasing the fast pack... what a rush!

I typically hit speeds of 38 - 40 MPH spinning out a 53-12

Wouldn't pedaling disrupt the air flow and actually slow you down on a steep downhill?
Anything above 40-50 mph or so downhill and it's all weight being dragged down by gravity. Pedaling seems to slow me down.

Yes it does IF you are doing greater than say 35 MPH+

If you are just spinning out a 53-12 or 53-11 say then you would be better to get areo and coast down. If you are going less than that then pedeling has a benefit...
