Yeah, I popped it in there so I could find it quickly.

And I'm still living in hope that the mods might create a CrossTraining forum.

I logged in to enter my details this evening, and discovered that there are actually 126 teams! They do appear to vary in size. One appears to have 3 members (their name is 3 Amigos) but I do know that lots have the maximum number of 8.

I should add that I do work in a large government organisation.

I joined a Step Challenge at my place of employment and we're about a week from the finish now. Through the Step Challenge, I discovered that I walk about 10,000 steps a day quite naturally, but I've been doing a bit of an extra push so that I've been averaging about 13,000 steps a day during this challenge which started mid-October. It has been motivating.

October was an incredibly busy month ... dealing with illness, travelling 4 weekends out of the 5, attempting a 600K randonnee (completed 390 km of it), finishing my course, and writing my final exam. Unless something very strange happens, I will graduate with a Graduate Certificate in IT in December. Hoping for a bit more sleep in the next week or two. There hasn't been much sleep lately.

Meanwhile ...

Saturday - Rowan and I decided to check out some of the buildings on offer in the Open House Hobart event:
Open House Hobart About Open House Hobart | Open House Hobart

We were thinking of cycling between buildings as we did a couple years ago, but the weather is so bad this year, that we opted to walk instead. It was chilly and very windy with numerous rain squalls. But we did get to see several places.

And I ended up with 13,000 steps on our little adventure.

I'll also add that I ended up walking 45.9 km last week.

According to my step counter, we walked 16,500 steps or apparently 13 km ... but I have a bit of trouble believing that we walked 13 km.

According to Google ... the hike we did partway up Mt Wellington was 7.8 km and the walk we took to get dinner was 2.4 km = 10.2 km plus a little bit more just walking around.

Anyway ... today we did a hike partway up Mt Wellington! It is one I've wanted to do for a while ... great views and a chance to see the Organ Pipes, a rather unique rock formation, a little closer.

As of yesterday ... 1122 km.

Last year I walked 1131 km, so I've got 4 days to walk another 9 km.

Walking total for 2016 (in miles) = 990 (tracked with my Fitbit tracker) which is almost 1600 km. But this is all walking, not just exercise walking Machka, so I don't know how it compares with your total?

I ended up with 1133 km of walking.

I'd say that probably 2/3 of the distance was utility walking ... part of my commute, shopping and running errands at lunch, walking between university and work, allergist and work, etc.

And the other 1/3 or so would be the beach walks Rowan and I do in the evening plus a couple hikes and things.

In addition to that I cycled 5760 km.

I'm aiming to walk more than last year ... even just a kilometre or two more.

Great thread !!
I alternate almost daily...ride day / walk day. I throw in a little running on my walk also to get the heart rate up. My wife likes to walk also so it's good for together time. 👍

Not me. Running makes my poor old man knees hurt. When I want to elevate HR when walking I either walk slower up steep hills, or find an alternative surface (for example, sand [like on a beach]).

Walking is great, especially when you are cutting grass all day at $50 an hour

How long do your shoes last?

All of the "experts" tell us that a good pair of walking shoes should last between 300 and 500 miles, and should be replaced every 3 or 4 months. But I've got a pair of New Balance 890v5 kicks that are over a year old now, and have about 900 miles on them. They are doing quite well - they compare very favorably with my newer shoes that I thought I was supposed to buy because my old shoes were supposed to wear out.

I understand that walking in worn-out kicks can hurt knees and backs, and I can be walking a thin line, but is this "300 to 500" mile limit on new shoes just shoe company hype??!?

I walked close to 5 miles yesterday. My round trip walk to/from work is 3.5 miles. More if I detour for groceries on the way home. Sometimes I will 10 miles round trip for dinner and a movie. I am a walking fool.

Were the skis made out of carbon fiber?

I'm at 87.2 miles, which is about 140.33 km.

A little over 17 of those miles (27+ km) is exercise, and the rest are fueled by my cool new job as a cook at a hotel - constantly on my feet walking walking walking lol

All of my walking measured by my Fitbit tracker

Charlene are you also cycling? I'm not right now

I love walking so I guess I am a peasant :-)). My wife bought me a Garmin Vivioactive HR for my birthday last year. Got it on July 21, 9 days prior to b'day. Since then I have walked 765 miles. Probably walked close to that amount prior to receiving the tracker.
