Cannondale Questions
I'm trying to get a better understanding of the differences of these bikes:
- 2011 Quick 4
- 2011 Quick CX4
- 2010 Bad Boy
The LBS that carry Cannondale don't stock all 3 of these, so I haven't been able to ride them all yet. They either carry the Quick 4 or they carry the Bad Boy (so it seems). I've been to a few bike stores to test ride others already, but wanted to understand the different uses of them. I already rode the 2010 Quick 4 (but didn't like it because of the SRAM components), the 2011 has shimano. I'd compare these Cannondales to the 2011 Trek 7.3 and the 2011 Specialized Sirrus Elite.
I'm looking for a bike that I can ride on paved roads, a little dirt paths, etc. To me (a newbie) they seem pretty similiar, is the Quick more geared towards a road bike and the others offer more flexibility? just not sure what the major differences are. I would have to go about 1 hour away to test ride the Bad Boy and CX4.

There is quite a lot of difference in frame geometry in the Quick 4, and the Quick CX4. I compared a large to a large, and almost
everything is different. And components also, I went as far as printing out the specs, and geometry on both. I will post a link
for both, so you can view them for yourself. I could not seem to find enough info on the ( 2010 ) Bad Boy to be of much help,
only the 2011 model. Just from what I am looking at, I would have to say the Quick 4 was desighned more for the road, and the
Quick CX4 for the road and trails, But I do not understand Cannondales thinking on the gearing for the Quick 4, same as the other,
basically MTB gearing 11-32 rear, and standard 28 38 48 front. You would think with the more road style aggressive geometry,
and the wheel set, they would have went with more road friendly gearing ? Not the same as on my Giant MTB, except the front
chain rings which are 22 32 42. I really do not know your riding style, but just from looking at them on paper, I like the Quick
CX4 better, seems more versatile. Sorry I could not be of more help, I do own bikes with both style Tektro brakes, and can tell
you they both work well, but prefer the disk, due to I ride off road a lot, and the rim brakes do not do not work well in the mud. ( LOL )

Just for my own education - what makes the Quick 4 more geared towards a road bike and the CX4 more versatile. When you look at the geometry what tells you that? I like the idea of having more versality in my bike. It looks like the components (Derailleurs) on the Quick 4 are higher quality than the CX4 (but this has disk brakes).
Overall, the components on the Quick seem to be better than the bad boy as well.
With the little knowledge that I have I would have thought the Quick 4 would have been better off road - wider tires.

The difference in tire size would not even be noticeable 700 x 38c verse 700 x 37c and depending on the tire maker, the 37c
might even be wider. As far as the rear DR, I have both also on to diffent bikes, there both low end entry level and the
difference is not even noticeably, they both shift well. Carbon forks on the Quick 4, and Fatty Rigid on the CX, the wheel set on the Quick 4 low spoke count verses the CX wheels more, so they are probably lighter, but weaker.compare the 2 bikes with a Cannondale XC racer, wheelbase length, standover height, etc..I will post a link to one. If you could
get past the Sram thing, here is a much better bike for the buck, same price range, I personally like Sram just as well.
The Giant Roam 1 ( 2011 ), disk brakes, lockout front suspension, 700 x 40c Kendra Kwicks, I have rode this bike and it
is fast on the road with the lockout front suspension, and great off road, a lot of bike for the money. I also would take the time
to go and ride the other ones even though it is an hour drive, my closest bike shop is 1 hour away one direction, I know the feeling.

My local Giant dealer is a little way as well. Don't get me wrong, I do plan to go and ride all of these to make sure that I get the bike that feels the best. For the Giants, I will try and ride both the Roam 1 and the Seek 2. For the Cannondales I will ride the 3 that I mentioned above. I'm trying to better educate myself as I go as well. I've been to a few LBS tested out a few bikes (2010/2011 Trek 7.3 , 2010 Cannondale Quick 4, and 2011 Specialized Sirrus Elite). I learn more and more when I read through these forums as well as go to the LBS. I'm more use to using the Shimano type shifters vs. the SRAM. The thumb action on shifting the SRAM seemed a little strange to me. That's the main reason I didn't like the 2010 Quick 4. The 2011 Quick 4 (I have not rode yet) went with Shimano shifters - why it interests me. The Giants do seem to offer more for the $. The Roam 1 seems like it would compare to the Specialized Crosstrail hybrids (more geared towards off road). I wonder how much quickness I would lose with this compared to the others? I'm assuming they would be quite a bit heavier as well. Thanks again for your help

You seem to be doing a very good job on your home work, there is going to be some trade off for suspension in weight
verse's comfort. But at the 600.00 dollar price range, none will be in the low 20 pound range, I'm not a speed freak so
weight really does not bother me as much as comfort, and the bike being able to do what I ask of it. Here is my current
favorite ride, I do not even know what it weighed before extra's. Probably around 34 pounds. But it rides awesome and
I love it, makes me want to ride more.
Good Luck in your search, Richard
