I used to think 66 was a smooth rider but after seeing never's vid I am not so sure.
I actually prefer the helmet mount...maybe because I can look further ahead and imagine riding the trail. I find the bike distracting in the chest cam vids. I have the Canmore chest cam vid up but YouTube stripped the audio off of it so I have to pick a new song and reload it (takes forever with broadband out here in the boonies!).

BTW, it's easy to be smooth when you're on buff trails with 10" of travel!!

Your side mount is nice because it lends scale and perspective. To me, chest mounts do the same, but to a greater degree due to the additional visible rider input. Unobstructed top mounts don't do anything for me - it might as well be an RC heli shooting it. One of my favorite mounts is also the rear-view style, especially with another rider in the frame. That view can show terrain details that you don't always see in a headup configuration.

Well I have two GoPro HDs now so I can get crazy with multiple mounting points...more footage next year! Anyway, I'll let you know when I get the Canmore chest cam vid up (with sound) to see what you think. On a couple of the earlier runs, I had the straps too long and the camera was lower on my body (i.e., pointing down too much)...but I added some of that into the vid because it was interesting watching the bike move around on some of the trail.

And I know what you mean about showing scale and perspective. I also put a mount on the front valence of the car so it's really low to the ground (camera is maybe 4 inches off the ground) and looks kinda neat. Only problem is there's no reference to get an idea of how fast you're moving. I think I'll add another mount to the driver's mirror to capture part of the hood, etc. Should make blasting through the twisties near my place look a little more exciting. Ahhh, not that I am going any faster than the speed limit...

Haha! Only when you get south of the border. It's like you guys do inverse math on the speed limit conversions .

So here is the Canmore vid, with some chest mount setup experimentation. The first trail is Soft Yogurt, a short, smooth, DH style pump track trail at the Canmore Nordic Centre (has a really good XC trail network). The second one is Reclaimer, a fun run that can be ridden with either a trail bike or a DH bike. I hadn't been on this trail since early this year and they did some reroutes near the top and really smoothed out some of the rockier sections of the trail (right after the switchbacks at the start of the trail).

On Reclaimer, we're both trying out a demo 2010 Specialized SX Trail 2. Really fun bike but the only issue was the front brake wasn't working properly so you had to hold back a bit. Regardless, I'm interested to see what the revised for 2011 SX Trails are going to be like.

speaking of hacks....(how's that for a segue?)...

went riding with two friends who are more badass than the illegal love child of bruce lee and chuck norris. Landon and Greg. We messed around on horsethief drop in (landon of course made it, i failed, greg took pics of landon making it and me failing) then we rode Moore Fun. it was the last day of decent weather, gray, overcast, but nice, cool, rideable. we had a great time. i didn't have a camera, but for pics (so worth seeing them, especially the action photos of me wrecking) you can go here: https://dirtanddogs.blogspot.com/

landon is in white, i'm in black with an orange rain fly on my backpack and a chain wallet. we both ride flat pedals.

Canmore vid: I was wondering "Since when did Chris grow dreadlocks?" - - kept seeing something wave in front of the cam. Finally found out seeing him at the end that it was the strings of his hoody .

No cool footage, sorry to say, but I did get out for the 'maiden voyage' of my healed hand at Beacon Hill today. Got in some easy runs down the 'old' DH course but held off a couple of the bigger features (road gap, Seattle line) for another day. Also left 'new' DH course for another day, since the doubles are bigger and not wanting to drag my riding buddy down it either (he's not quite ready for a some of it yet) and I wasn't quite sure I was either, today. It just felt good to get out, get some flow going and hit some tried-and-true familiar jumps and step-downs.

Hand felt fine and isn't sore. Time to start stepping it back up.

Good to hear about the hand.

I couldn't use much of Chris' run because of the damned strings. You figure a doctor would be smart enough to think of tucking them away when using a chest cam.

I tried out the chest cam for some trail riding around the property yesterday and today. Wow, climbing is really boring to watch!

for your next post you should ask how much that is in lbs.

I rode today, it was fun. Still exploring new trails while dodging hunters. I've got a super-D type route I'm finalizing that has promise, and the 3+ mile climb does appear mostly shuttleable. If I only had friends.

B isn't very nice in person so for me it'd have to be a 13km run with him driving the shuttles.

So October 28th I wrecked on my bike. Fractured my collar bone, suffered severe head trauma and had a rather large hematoma. I mountain bike regularly and i use my secondary to do a 9 mile commute to one of my jobs. I always wear my helmet on and off the trails but this time i did not. I was only going a mile and a half to my bank when not even out of my neighborhood I swerved at fullspeed into a giant fancy cast iron mailbox. My bike was 10 feet from the mailbox and my body was 10 feet from my bike. I dont remember anything from this day except for very brief flashes. Oh and to top it all off the ambulance i was in was in a head on while they were transporting me to the hospital and i had to be transferred to a second vehicle haha just my luck!

Anyway that was the last time I rode I am still in a sling and my head still has a decent sized knot. I get dizzy spells when i lay down or if i lean back/get up from a seat but i dont get any while walking or standing.

Im sure i dont have to say this but ALWAYS WEAR YOUR HELMET! its always that one time...

I CANT WAIT TO GET BACK ON!

I'm so jealous of all of you
