This week I did the full 24-hour course instead of just the outside loop. It still has some snowpack and I had to walk maybe 500 meters, but I'm not complaining (other than about Little Vietnam being closed).

It was almost 55°F, clear and sunshine this evening. Rode a couple runs at Beacon after work. Temp was perfect. Dirt was perfect. Rocks were perfect. First race Saturday . . . followed by second race Sunday. At Beacon. Hopefully without snow this time.

Well it's been raining in So Cal this week. Average rainfall for March is usually about .5" and we've had over 5" in the last 7 days.

Went out yesterday and today and hit some of the trails I knew would be less muddy. Overall got about 54 miles in and over 7k ft. of climbing for the two days. Crashed in some bushes today which was pretty awesome. Hoping for a dry week this week so I can do some more riding next weekend.

Some pics from today's ride. So Cal has been hit pretty hard with rain the last 3 weeks and it's taking a toll on the trails. Today i did the Backbone loop and parts were simply unridable. Here is my ride data:

https://connect.garmin.com/activity/76795145

And the pics:

This is overlooking the Reseda part of the valley. Basically, 95% of American porn is filmed below me:

This trail (Arrowhead I've heard it called), cuts left pretty deep. I ride parts with my right foot unclipped in case I start to slide out. As you can see, this car didn't make it.

Pic of some of the trail damage from the rain. This is rideable on the sides, but some parts of this drop maybe 3-4 feet. It's a little sketchy.

This is dirt Mulholland.

So much for it being sunny today.

Part of Backbone

This section is sketchy. It's near the end of Backbone. The railing prevent a bad fall off a ledge. I walk this, others ride it. There are "steps" one needs to descend on this part that are just too sketchy for me.

That's all I got today.

Cheers

Rob

I'm jealous of the ride pic's. I've ridden the trail 5 times since October 1st. I've ridden the street 2x. Ever since I moved to Mizzou, I just can't find it in myself to come home from work...kiss my wife and kids on the cheek...and tell them I'm leaving again. Maybe when they meet new peeps up here to hang with, I'll feel better bout it.

Some good riding this weekend. on Saturday, a buddy suggested we do the Bulldog climb in Malibu state park then return via Backbone Trail. Neither of us had ridden this part so it was going to be new. First, getting to Bulldog is neat. We hit some short rock gardens, rode past the MASH site, and overall had a pleasant warm-up. That said, Bulldog is a beast. 1700+ feet of gain in 3.4 miles. It's a fireroad, but I would consider it unimproved. Anyway here's the ride data and a few pics:

https://connect.garmin.com/activity/78516935

looking down part of Bulldog. The pic doesn't do it justice.

Rewarded with some nice viewing points

My buddy acted as navigator

No idea what's up here but it's neat.

Ahhh the one little bit of singletrack for the main loop

We added an extra couple miles on the Los Virgenes trail

Today we hit something more local. Sullivan Canyon going up, Arrowhead singletrack, Caballero Canyon down, Reseda Blvd to Mulholland up, Backbone down.
https://connect.garmin.com/activity/78516924

Weekend data
Distance: 45.48 mi
Time: 06:32:12 h:m:s
Elevation Gain: 7,083 ft
Avg Speed: 7.0 mph

Got out for a fun Urban AllMountain ride the other day. No trails nearby now that I'm moved...but the urban is better than the old city. There's also an "action sports park" nearby that was co-designed by DMC! Gotta go check that one out. (basically just a crete skatepark with trannys that are bmx friendly)

Default trails on Monday. Blowing snot all over the place, getting over a nasty cold. I think several small woodland creatures were slimed.

Tiiiight through here. A little hopping action to clear the back wheel from sliding off the side down into the marshy bits below.

Pro Gravity Racing Tour (ProGRT) National last weekend in Port Angeles, WA. Two great days of practice and racing on a stellar Pro/Cat 1 course:

I decided against Kayaking this weekend.

(There's a secret to making pix bigger on this site amirite?)
There is: embed it instead of attaching (little picture icon - - or just bracket the URL with [img] [/img]). Go to edit and you'll see the coding. -DMinor

A ride yesterday began and ended not well. The DH bike was going Up hill. I was pedaling like mad. Hooked a root with a pedal. Got beat up right at the outset. Then, in the "Devils Cradle" I hooked some vine. Another abrupt stop. The ride ended with a flat deep in the woods. Long hike out in bike shoes.

Next time I take brush clearing tools to the cradle.

Killer ride today with two of my best buds (by "killer",I mean,I almost died 16 times trying to prove I could push my bud Andrew down-and up-the trail,my being 16 years his senior )

A break for me to find my lungs and Dave to catch up (he had enough sense to let Andrew have his ride and rode his own...SO much smarter than me )
DeadheadDave (41,left),myself (37,center),Andrew (21,right)...

And the bikes (the 29ers mine, the burly Surly,Dave's,Andrew is in the market and shopping around for his first bike )...
