Went for a push up one of my favorite trail rides with the big bikes. Some snow going up and down and it made the descent amazing...really fun for practicing cutties and drifting into corners.
The view from the top of this trail is awesome... http://i5.pinkbike.com/photo/1603/pbpic1603680.jpg |
Stunning.
Like biking through middle earth |
Rode Teetertown today.......
In falling snow. Always love the first snow ride of the fall/winter season. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b2...4/HPIM0111.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b2...4/HPIM0115.jpg |
Just did Ray's indoor mountain bike park in cleveland, wow what a place! As I am new to the forums, I'm sure others have posted about it before, so I won't tire you with the details.

I went for a ride on a new DS Stumpjumper Expert demo bike. Tomorrow I have to get back on my hardtail with v brakes for a group ride. Sigh. I know what I'm missing now, so I'll be gettin g a new bike by January.

Just returned from riding in Sedona, AZ. 50 and sunny. Due to an excessive amount of hikers at the Dry Creek trails, opt to ride the Broken Arrow loop (along with the Pink Jeep tours). Stopped in at Absolute Bikes and went next door to the Blue Moon for a burger, then headed home.

If you ever hear reference to "Little Vietnam," that's the jungle-y trail that runs right on the river bottom through the skunk cabbage and nettles and ends up at the Seven Mile parking area. Ahhh, Devil's Down - - one of my favorite XC descents. I know it was needed but I kinda wish they hadn't built the AW ride-around. BTW, I saw your other shots and refernces to Palisades - - I love that twisty litle trail that comes out at the Palisades signboard. |

Yep then I'm very familiar with 5 Minute hill but I love going down and just flat out open it up. AW I perfer to ride it going up the climb. Have you ridden the trails above Marshall Lately? Some one has built a house next to way I access the trails off the rail trail. But most of the trails in that area are still open and the Marshall Rollers are one of the funest rides in the area. |

My morning ride was not as pretty. I had noticed on Sunday that some sad people left their crap strewn about everywhere on our trails at the local state park. On one of the prettiest sections that runs along the creek too. So I decided to head out this morning with the largest pack I could find and pick up what I could. Here are some pics. Yipee! Mission accomplished and got some great riding in to boot. My cold car and bike before departure. The parking lot was packed! Just kidding. it was just me. . http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...2/IMG_0231.jpg . Beginning of the section that runs along the creek. . http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...2/IMG_0232.jpg . The creek. . http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...2/IMG_0233.jpg . First sighting of "Camp "A-holes" . http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...2/IMG_0235.jpg . more in next post... |
another "camp A-holes" location cleaned up!
. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...2/IMG_0234.jpg . Here's the winner, My pack wasn't big enough for this mess. Go humanity! . http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...2/IMG_0236.jpg . post-ride loot... . http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...2/IMG_0237.jpg . Here's the tally of what I could fit in my pack. Suppose another trip is in order soon. 37 cans of crappy beer 6 glass beer bottles of crappier beer 3 plastic bags 14 dixie cups 2 plastic drink bottles and 1 shampoo bottle, which was probably the "portable girlfriend" for "Camp A-holes" Anyway, I'm sure others will appreciate my little effort, and I did also have some great riding in between the clean ups even though I froze my arse off. I love bike riding. |

I've enjoyed a post-ride bottle of cab + steak, so I'm a bit goofy right now. Ripe for punishment
today was my first real MTB ride. Weather and working days-off have hosed me for two weeks. I took vacation and rode in 35 degree rain today just to get it in, and it handed me my a s s. It took about 20 minutes before I lowered the saddle on technical rough stuff. I need to practice that "track stand" talked about earlier, so as to protect my jewels. riding along the side of a hill between tight trees against gravity makes it hard to not fall and roll in the mud. How do you position your saddle on awkward slow rough terrain? the slightly bent knee at full leg extension didn't work for me today. I need more experience. I went ended up about two inches below roadie height to feel more comfortable. I'm glad I wore waterproof boots today. Twice while trying to cross a stream I sunk in the mud and had to go on foot. countless times I stopped on a tight uphill trail to avoid rolling down it. I am ****e at getting re-started, against gravity. I need to learn to be in the right gear before I get in that situation. The web site for the trail describes "moderate to difficult single-track with some short climbs and descents, tight corners, rocks, roots, and man-made stone embankments". Best $4 I ever spent. I'm just glad I had my first go without witnesses on a deserted weekday :D (no witnesses of my lack of skill). My number one goal needs to be drinking less beer and getting back in shape I guess (that's why I'm drinking Cab tonight). My motor is garbage. It is a whole-lot different than my 6 miles to work in the morning (and a lot more fun). Any advice, book recommendations, or critique is encouraged. I just need to get on more trails and learn to handle them. Cheers, and thanks for all of your help when I was bike shopping. I can't wait to go back tomorrow. |
congrats, sounds like a fun ride :)
I just went for a ride in the new snow from last night - we're up to almost a foot now - and had a blast. going was slow, for sure, but it was fun anyway. I rode in 1:30 what I can usually ride in 20 minutes... First test for the new snow tires in fluffy powder that deep, and they performed relatively well. A mud tire withs spikes would have been better, but I could ride almost everything eventhough my tires were nowhere near hitting solid ground. Photos coming later. Tires were perfect on the way over and back, with semi-plowed icy roads with about 3 inches of packed snow overtop. I felt like I was skiing. |
Today was great day...headed west of the city to a short shuttle trail to get some practice in. When I checked it out earlier in the week as I was heading out for a hike with my wife, it appeared to be all flattened down. Turns out, someone actually shovels the trail off. We ran into him today and definitely thanked him. Plus it's super icy up top and he puts gravel/ice melt type stuff down on the sketchy spots.
Daggett and I were sessioning a few of the berm sections. Even though the foot out picture looks cooler, it was faster keeping it on because you could pedal out of that berm into the next one. http://i4.pinkbike.com/photo/1668/pbpic1668188.jpg http://i5.pinkbike.com/photo/1668/pbpic1668189.jpg We met up with a couple of other guys shuttling and we got a few fast, full runs...good times. |
31/2 hours at Ray's indoor MTB park in Cleveland Ohio! Made some great progesson today, very happy with result, especially when I"m an old guy!

Beautiful day today in Western Washington, unfortunately we've had a lot of rain in the past month and the trail by my house (Japanese Gulch) was a complete mud bog. So I only rode the 1/4 mile stretch that wasn't under 5 inches of muck and snapped a photo while I was out. Summer can't come fast enough. |
I took my new fully for a ride Monday morning in Sycamore Canyon Park down here in Riverside, CA. The weather was ideal-cool and bright, scattered clouds. It was only my second time in the park and I really enjoyed exploring the variety of singletrack and fire roads.
The bike rides like a dream; I couldn't be happier. Having the 5" of travel in the back is very confidence inspiring. I think I'm going back there this weekend-maybe I'll take the camera this time. |
