Well if it makes you feel any better, I think I broke another rib yesterday.

BFG 01-07-08 10:15 PM

Well that doesn't make me feel better. Wanna send me your Manik to ride while you heal?
:D

No way...it's the only bike I've been riding lately. Was out with it last night...painful but still fun. At least until my battery died and I had to finish the last 10-15 minutes in the dark.

Cheeto 01-13-08 04:43 PM

I rode my first real trail on my New bike today.
It was fun! the leaves and pinestraw made for a slippery ride around corners, i just "drifted"around them lol.
Caught a bit of air (my old BMX skill helped lol) also.
over all, was fun, looking forward to riding again

We've had a bunch of snow in the past day so I decided to get out for a quick night ride on the trails behind my house...was going pretty good, drifting and having fun in the snow, until I got to the turn-around point and my rear tire blew off of the rim. Wouldn't be a big deal but I never take anything with me when I ride the trails...so I had a nice walk/push back.

My first ride report from my second trail ride ever!
Went to some trails behind a county college here in NJ with my new Gary Fisher Wahoo Disc. Woke up early to temps in the teens. The water in my water bottle froze about 15 minutes in to the ride. Need to realize I'm not on my road bike and get a camelback, haha. Rode for about an hour and a half total. The trails are color coordinated so I hit blue, and orange then just messed around on a few jumps for a while. Although I still really enjoy riding road, I for sure have the trail bug. Met up with some more experienced dudes who showed me around and gave me some good advice. Had a great time, just wish it was above freezing. :)

Lol, glad i dont have to deal with those temps anymore since i left alaska.

i got to ask, Why the Veterns against the war thing?

Dumpsterlife 01-20-08 03:05 PM

Lots of reasons. Mainly because I am a veteran who is against the war.

highrevs 01-20-08 10:31 PM

I went out for a ride today. The temperature was in the mid to upper twenties. I think it might have been my first ride during subfreezing temperatures. I thought the trail conditions where quite nice. The trial was frozen with only a couple of soft spots here and there. There was a little bit of snow still hanging around from yesterday, which made for nice trailside eyecandy. After about 6 miles or so my toes where pretty darn frozen, so I bailed and went to the truck. No pictures from the ride, just one of my dirty socks and after ride beer.

I need to talk the shop owner into getting these in some sort of wool blend for days like today.

Trekbikedude 01-21-08 05:45 PM

highrevs, It sounds just like my ride. I went to white clay. Did 14 miles. Well actually, I was in the area of white clay I mostly did judge morris and middle run in DE. Feet still cold.

Went out for a quick ride after work today. Solo ride, so no action shots. Sort of solo anyway, some shots of the dog mixed in.

I'm against it too, but I believe it's important to support the troops no matter what the current harebrained scheme has them doing.

I think the best way to support our troops, is to respect their lives enough to not allow them to participate in a "hairbrained scheme" no? What does support the troops actually mean? When I was over there we always wondered what that meant. Now that I'm out I still send my friends stuck out there issues of dirt rag...so that way I know I'm supporting them directly, haha.

Anyway...went to the wissahickon trails today. They're huge, and a lot of fun...I think my road bike thinks I'm mad at it...I've been in the woods every day this week.

The weather warmed up today to 50 degrees. I though I'd take a ride at Harris Lake, NC. Hey the weather's nice (correct) and its the winter so the trails will be empty (incorrect). There must have been some announcement I was not aware of that called all area MTBers to Harris Lake, and bring the family. It was the second most crowded ride I've ever been on. I lost track of how many bikes I passed and I only rode half the course. It must have been family day because there were at least a dozen kids on 20 inch bikes riding the front trails. Thank God, none of them dropped me.
But Hey, any ride in the winter is a good ride.

Sundays pedal through the woods was pretty laid back. No one was worried about setting any new pace of distance records for sure. Then again, I don’t think are crew ever worries too much about that kinda stuff.

I was feeling a little sore and pretty warn out. We put many hours into new trail construction the day before. For me Sunday’s ride was just to get out and stretch the legs, enjoy the cool air and play with my new point and shoot camera.

The highlight of the ride may have been when we stopped and sessioned a steep part of trail for a bit.

Got to tell you all about the best winter ride ever!

After spending most of the Xmas period waiting for the new addition for my Giant Warp DS1 the "Gravity Dropper" finally arrived then the really cold weather came in plus snow I was in desperate need of a ride.
Tried unsuccessfully to ride in the snow and ice, gave up and sat at home wishing I'd spent the money on Nokian studded tires instead!
Got a Xmas present from one of my buddies, a new inner tube and some 6X3/8 sheet metal screws encouraging me to make my own studded tires so I plucked up courage and in 4 hours had two tires studded and ready to go riding.
The weather had warmed up to around freezing had been -18Deg C the previous weekend so off to Dundas Valley for a trail ride.
Very nervous about the screws ripping out or the screws suddenly going back into the tire even though I had glued another inner tube inside the tire to protect the main one.
After a short run along an old railway trail is a sharp small down hill then a good climb let me tell you the traction was unbelievable the hill was climbed with ease, during the rest of the year I would at least spin a couple of times but with these screws sticking out no problem at all.
Found myself going even quicker than normal due to the uncanny traction and it just got better and better.
Started to really experiment with the adjustable seat height the Gravity Dropper and wow why didn't I buy one of these earlier? The difference in down hill speeds is tremendous it allowed me to hang off the back easier and lowered my centre of gravity (I'm an Old Clydesdale 6'1" 220lb) managed to hit 40Km/hr on loose and packed snow and ice.
During this 2 hour ride the highlight was the trip to a frozen pond that had been used for a game of Ice Hockey and without much thought for safety there we were like two little kids shouting and popping wheelies and cutting grooves in the glare ice.
To think all this time I could have been out riding in the snow and ice instead of wishing I'd bought the Nokians and crying in my beer.
Night Riding here we come!

Dang Highrevs, we still gotts a bunch of snow on the ground........you guys suck!

highrevs 01-28-08 08:30 PM

I've had my fingers crossed to get a little snow down here. Oh well, I'll just have to keep riding while I wait for old man winter to bring us a little of the white stuff. :D

I did the same thing. Here's a few shots of the tires I made.

They work awesome. I was out on some trails Saturday that are mostly used by cross country skiers. The trails were pretty icy and I hardly slipped. The only issues I had was on steep climbs. They took a looong time to make, but worth it to me.

formantjim 01-28-08 09:03 PM

Nice job!
My cordless drill I used ran out of juice so had to hand screw all the screws in my finger tips are still numb but it was well worth it.
