Great job Doug! Wow 103 degrees. Climbing had to be brutal?
Didn't help that I did a nice face/chest-plant off the wall ride about a half-hour before the start. |

Thanks. Oh yes it was brutal indeed. I knew it was hot but didn't know by how much until I got back to the bottom. It may have been "only" 95 up on top :)

Go do a super-d race in full armor, and on a big bike when it's 103F. Then get back to us and let us know how that works out for you...

Why would I need full armor for a super-d when i have my trusty super hero suit :D. Whats the bike have to do with anything? I imagine it wouldn't be any worse than 2 a day football practice in full pads and helmet when it's 107F,
Uh, probably not. Comparing a SD race (usaully a short-ish event) done on a DH bike in full face/armor two two days of football practice is kinda stupid, don't you think? Yes. You live in Texas. It's hot. We got it. |
My best friend Adam was visiting from SC, California and we just got back from our decently epic Kenosha pass to the Continental divide ride. Something like 29 miles there and back with some serious climbing. I believe we topped out at just over 12,000 feet(yes, above the sea:p). The final climb was 6 miles of steep technical climbing, with a gain of elevation of over 2,000 ft. It was soooooo worth it, what a ride:thumb:

I never said you needed that for a SD race. If you read DM's post, you'll see that's what he was wearing. He didn't say what bike, but since he posted that he thought it was a DH race, I'm guessing he had a bike along that wasn't the most ideal SD racing setup.

I would like to say that I used to be a band nerd (not by choice though). For marching band (google Centerville Jazz band, we got like 13th in the nation and a bunch of people were sad, not sure why, but they were) we had 3 a-days (8am-noon then 2-5 then 6:30-9, but I left more like 10, because I sucked and had to run laps, and because our football field was being used, we got to practice in the parking lot for the first two in the middle of the day). On the tarmac the temp. was measured at 101 on a couple of days and I live in Ohio, so we dont have nice dry air. We did this for about 2 weeks every day other than Sunday, so please dont complain about 2 a days for football (Our section sucked, so everytime we screwed up, we had to run a couple of laps, so it wasnt just standing around).
Edit: I will say that 103 degrees in armor when you are used to a much lower temp. sounds brutal. |

If you think band is hard you're a ***** cat. But I know what you mean, it's a different type of difficulty, not as physically demanding. Sure, I agree. Then why are we arguing apples vs oranges? |

See, that's normal marching band, we are not normal (and I dont doubt that football is hard, but we had someone who was previouly a FB player at our school in the band, and he said it was just as difficult if not harder)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?emb=0&e...&v=5jh6FXeofxw The show I was in (its purdy dumb IMO, but its 10 mins straight of running around on a field. We figued we covered ~ a mile and a half in just about 10 mins) Edit: look up "From the 50 Yard Line" (and no, I'm not trying to brag or dis anyone, in fact, I find the whole band program a bit pathetic because of their over competitiveness) Edit edit: Wow, I just watched that vid, we all look like super-tards Edit edit edit: You can just fast forward to the end and watch a bunch of uncordanated people try the electric slide Edit edit edit edit: FYI I'm not trying to dog on you |
Sweet! HS football player internet chest thumping.
Comparing a SD race with full armor/full face on a DH bike to football practice is still an apples/oranges comparison, no matter the temp. |
Yeah, this is out of hand. Lets move to the gen thread.

Next time, try the Jefferson Creek descent down (if you didn't this time) it takes off from the top, and dumps you back down to the main Kenosh trail about halfway down, then you ride the rest of the "normal" route back. Funfunfun! If you haven't yet, Searle Pass is really, really good as well. And around Monarch: look into Fooses Creek, and Greens Creek. You still climb up to the top of the pass, but the descending is much, much better than the traditional route, IMO. |
More of this.

Went for a five hour ride on Sunday...first trail ride without a cast since May! I didn't take the pictures and I'm not sure if I can link them here...

Participated in a dirt TT last night. I feel bad because I talked my dad into to riding and he fell going over the first jump. He brused his ribs fairly badly, though he didnt break them (he works in the ER and found out earlier today at work). Still a good time. Posted a crappy pic in the race section.

Wow Never. Thats awesome. I'm gonna show up on your doorstep one day.
