Its a 2002 Specialized Hardrock UNO. I guess it was their only venture into single pivot rear suspension. Obviously it went over like a rock since they dropped the model after 1 year of production. I replaced the stem with a shorter one and put on the bar ends. Its not fancy, but sure is fun to ride.

I know the area pretty well. We usually come up to Pisgah and stay near the South Entrance. Ridden N. Mills River a couple of times. I definitely know what you mean by gritty soil, down here in FL, we have SUGAR sand and a ton of it.
Next time I head up, maybe you could show me around.
I'm thinking I'm due for a Memorial Day long weekend trip. (along with all the other Floridiots going to WNC).

It's almost always muddy, at least in places (we get 35"+ rainfall/yr) and the soil makeup is really gritty (you Yankee's may not know what I'm talkin' 'bout). That's one reason I went disc on the brakes. I was wearing out the sidewalls on two sets of rims/year. Chains & cassette's don't have too long a life either. Anyway, alot of people come from all over the nation to ride around here, and it's good to meet "most" of them. Some aren't too friendly, but I suppose that's the way of life in the big city...
Here's a pic of my new bike after 2 rides. I love the Hayes HFX-9 DH brakes, and lighter wheelset/tires.
Unfortunately, it still weighs right @ 32 lbs.
They don't look new for long...

Nope, I had one, the only thing it affects is your senses initially. After riding for a hour or so you don't even think about it anymore!

Actually, one of the biggest complaints with Cannondale's forks is their limited travel. This is because it's a single device mounted as part of the headset. So, in order for Cannondale to keep up with the move towards longer suspension travel, the took a dual crown fork (which allows for more travel) and realized they could get the weight close to a single crown fork by cutting the dual crown in half.
This was attempted in BMX a bunch of years ago, but w/o suspension and the technology wasn't available to make them work. The design isn't really a "fork" it's actually a "STRUT", you know like what a lot of aircraft use for their landing gear. Cannondale figured if this design was good enough for landing gear and all the imposed loads and stress in that application, they could sure as heck make bike suspension work.
They did!
I like the Lefty and NEVER had a problem with mine. Looked cool and different too.
The only problem was buying replacement parts. It's obviously all proprietary.

Not sure when they started, but Ducati has some higher end cycles with a single sided swingarm:

I just love when people try to justify their purchases by putting down others.

This thread is for pictures only guys. Chill out. "Can't we all just ride and get along"
MSD...nice bike...my mom to this day said she would come out west and shoot me if I ever bought any kind of motorized bike. I want one so bad but I am afraid it would kill either her...or me...either way I don't have one
...
Do you own an MX or strictly a crotch rocket?

My bad, Man.... Maybe I should've said, "Stupid to buy" instead. I almost bought a C'dale FS w/ a single fork arm, but when I looked for another set of wheels, they were disc specific to the Coda's.... Get over it Dude, U R a Mtn.Biker.... or at least U claim 2 B 1....
