The shock is adjustable. Unfortunately it is difficult to adjust quickly on a ride. There is a nut below the yellow elastomer which adjusts the travel. I'd say travel is adjustable from as little as 1/2" to about 2 1/2 "..some have achieved travel of 3 1/2 " by making some modifications. Elitists scoff at it because it "looks strange" or "isnt the latest" but I'll let them be assh.les as I fly past them.

Afterall its 90% rider 10% bike. Any pro racer would still whoop our a..es on a Huffy. Right?

So you know a master fabricator. That is very helpful. Good luck! I've never welded aluminum(only steel), but I hear it can be a real pita.

I want to save some money for upgrades someday...
I'm planning on getting a suspension seat post (for those times when I'm sitting on the thing)
and a set of discs... but not anytime soon. I blame this bike for making darker.

You make it sound as if anyone who can fabricate/weld alluminum is a "master fabricator". This isnt the 1920s. There are MANY people around who have the ability. By the way, you sure a cocky little dude. Self-esteem issues?

K, then. Not cocky, and I've never been accused of being little, but I was sincere(in wishing you good luck with your conversion) and kidding(about the master fab). I had a Monster Garage moment when I posted since you might be modding your frame and fork to accommodate disc brakes. Does nobody here watch that show? Hopefully this cleared up that little misunderstanding.

Hey, r-dawgmatic, sweet ride! How you likin' that bike? I'm thinking of picking one up, but I don't think I want to deal with hydraulic brakes. That one come with the Hayes?

Hmm, I don't run discs(yet) so I didn't really look that closely. I know they're spec'd with hydraulics on Kona's website(for '05 anyway).

those are hydraulics, in the mechanical ones you can see the cord that pulls the break, and in those it is all encased.

Unless something has changed all Hayes disk brakes that are mechanical are designated M 1,2,3 etc. The 9's are all hydraulic.
