I dunno. It got me thinking about how much my bike has depreciated since 2008.

Which got my thinking how much my riding has depreciated since 2008.

Oh, and the cost of my latest is a trade secret - - even from myself. I make it a point NOT to add it up so that the only thing my wife knows for sure is how much the frame cost .

My bikes were about $12.76 but I try to justify that cost by riding a lot.

A man with his priorities straight!

I paid just a shade over a grand, shipped, on my Salsa 29er.

I'm riding a 2003 Fuji Sunfire that cost me about 350 brand new back in the day. Its still riding good (slipping gears a bit) but I may be getting a new trek/fisher mamba this fall which will be about 900$ after tax. I wish I had more money for a nicer bike but I will just replace parts slowly over time if needed be. : )

Yuuup, it's sad that either of my bikes mounted on top of the POS 99 taurus are more valuable than the car they are mounted on...

My new bike is Merida 20yr Ltd Edition, cost me 500 bucks. This is for entry level really. But I like the Shimano Alivio 2010 9sp, it was good enough for climbing.

When I ride my $70'ish Crapper...I begin to appreciate it more than my nice ride...until I take the nice ride out. Then I remember why I spent the extra $$$.

You know ive noticed a trend, to spend thousands of dollars on a single bike and i just dont get it. My current bike i spent around 300 to build and it out performs and is better quality than a bike that i had bought about three years ago for 1900 that i sold about two months after purchase. I guess it depends on what your doing with it but really why spend 2 or 3k on something that your only gonna ride two or three times a month and only for leisure rides on established trails? Im not really singling out anyone on the forum mostly just what i see locally, is these people on multi thousand dollar racing machines puttin around on walking paths, i mean really you need hydraulic disc brake to stop your immense speed. Sorry about the rant

I ride whatever bike I need for the ride....mostly anyways. 'cause sometimes I ride my best rode bike or MTB on a trail thats made for weekend riders and even on the street, do I personally think it matters what you spent on your bike or what gear you used to upgrade it? Hells no! I figure who has the right to give a **** what you spent or didn't spend as long as your riding is all that matters, right?

i 99% agree with you it doesn't really bother me that people have the money to spend on them what they do its the ones that see me on a trail on my 300 dollar bike and look at me like im stupid, and ive had a really big problem at the local bike shops with my bike one shop told me it wasnot worth the fixing ( i no longer go into that store) i am totally into the to each their own thing it just that boise as a whole is not. BTW i went into the shop with a headset question as this was the first bike ive dealt with that has a intergrated h/s
this is the bike i built

nothing wrong with your bike, its the bike shop that has the problem. BTW its not just boise, its any place the snobs hang out in any city anywhere in the world. Bunch of ******bags. ;0) (and they're not all "well to do" either.)

you're completely right, i get same thing on my commuter because i made my own panniers, this one older guy i meet on my rides in the morning was giving me crap about my home made laptop rack bag, i guess he was upset that i spent 8 dollars on something he spent 100 on his loss. I do wish i would have spent more and got a new set of forks those old TTs are getting tired and no replacement bushings are avail.
