Get your stuff oil-wise from a moto shop. Way cheaper, and you'll have plenty for many, many oil changes down the road.
When swapping the spring, you don't need to remove the lowers at all. Have the fork sitting flat (so no oil leaks out top or bottom) pull old spring out, pop new in, do up the lower bolt and topcap. Good to go with minimal oil loss. As you've noted, the coil side only uses a tiny amount.

I also thought about using the 7.5wt in the damper...with a stiffer spring...it may just require a little heavier fluid to compensate.
I honestly won't know this for sure until I have a chance to test the firm spring with the extreme open and closed damper settings.
Needless to say though...I'm pretty excited to get in installed.

Gee thanks Ed. I actually bought that thinking it was the same size as my first one which I never should've sold. Turns out its a size smaller and I just can't get comfortable. I finally got some tubing to practice on, hopefully I will have my own frame some time this year.
Edit: so what are you doing with the 55

Sellin...I dunno though, man.
The TST gets here tomorrow, so I can get it all installed and everything...but there was this one time...at band camp...when the wind blew my bike over like 1 more inch...against the side of the porch. It left a really tiny (like a few mm long) scratch 3/4 up on the right stanchion. You can't hardly feel it, it's pretty hard to spot, but I know it's there and that's what matters. It will never cause the seals any problem...it basically just rubbed through the black ano or paint or whatever they did to the tube to make it black.
I would be doing this via PM, but I feel that the public nature of this post kinda holds me accountable for making known the flaw in the fork for some reason. I would still show pic's of it and describe it if I listed it on ebay though. I'm just honest like that. I can't freakin' help it
Either way, yah...it's getting sold. I was planning on ebaying it as a an "ex-R", now TST with the story included.
If I were you though...I would seriously consider the nature your future with the fork you have. I thought when I bought mine..."how could anyone scroo-up an R cartridge", but it seems that all of the negative aspects of the reviews decided to have a party on my bike all at once. The 2008 TST has a bladder in the bottom of the cartridge (mind you this story is according to the dude at Marz as well as the Suspension Experts, NC) and the bladder would explode and the fluid would leak down into the chamber causing the travel to be limited to ~3" or so.
According to the dude at Marzocchi, he was going to replace my R with a TST that is not a 2008 TST b/c of those issues. He was sending me the "updated version" that supposedly addresses those issues. He was also going to "go through it personally" b/c of all the issues I've been having and make sure it's right b/c they "like to do that for their clientele that have had multiple issues."
Now...this is either a dude who is a straight-shooter and wants to make sure I'm hooked up...or it's a good salesman who wants to tell me what I want to hear. I lean toward the prior b/c he wasn't making any money off of me by selling me a TST for $65. Maybe breaking even, but that would leave him no motive to give me "lip-service".
I honestly fully planned on riding the 55 again when I got the cartridge installed...but I kept watching that Domain outta the corner of my eye and I just decided to bite on it. The main reason besides the great track record, is the adjustable compression and travel adjust. It won't make the night and day difference that will allow me to climb like my XC buddies...but it will be better for that as well as trips to the sk8park.
So...there's my story.

Do it yourself? are you crazy? this is a mountain bike part, everyone knows that you must take your bike and all it's components to the lbs or there will certainly be a disaster. Don't you know that some of those fork thingy's have springs and stuff that could spring out and get stuck in your eye or something. now if it were me I may try working on a front fork but I would never attempt the rear fork because everyone knows that they have springs in them that could spring out at warp speed and injure the unsuspecting bicycle owner. so i think you may just want to leave this one for the pro's like me. if you would like some help with this stupendously dificult job then i would suggest that you send it to me, i mean my bike shop.....

UPS stopped by...(hang on a minute)
So they sent me another R cartridge AND a TST2 cartridge..."bread anyone?"

The Suntour R:

TST2 knob is PIMP:

Notice the difference between the two...the R is a pressed together piece of junk that resembles a hatchback piston, the TST is much larger in diameter with alot more fluid in it. It's also a serviceable cartridge:

There's a knob at the bottom of the TST2 that controls rebound. They forgot to send me the knob, so that's OTW. Other than that...I just have to figure out whether to sell the fork as a TST2 or sell it as an R and sell the TST cartridge seperately.
Ripped this pic off:

In the up-side...the new cart looks just as easy to install as the Domain.

I'm extremely disappointed. I thought that this was going to be chelboed's coming out thread where he finally admitted his love of feather boa's, latex, and show tunes!

I like boa's with scales, I wear latex gloves at work, but as far as the show tunes go...I could probably do the soundtrack to Kranked 6.
