yep, that amount of mud from a trail will kill it in no time.

LuMax 03-31-11 02:40 PM

@craigcraigcraig = <me climbing onto my soapbox> It's not the amount of mud on the bike it's the ruts that are left behind that cause trails to erode at a high rate. It also causes less experienced riders to ride around the rutted area, turning a bit of single track into what looks more like a jeep trail. I've been building/maintaining trails for >10 years and I can't tell you how many hours I personally have spent repairing deep ruts left behind by muddy trail riders. It definitely does have a big impact.

Another thing to consider is that trails get closed to mountain bikers routinely. One of the arguments that biking opponents use is photos of trail damage caused by careless riders. Riding wet trails causes the most damage, excessive skidding and riding off-trail are probably the two other biggest factors. I love mountain biking and I'm only asking my fellow riders to use common sense and help preserve the trails (and help keep them open) for everyone.

Finally, if you have never volunteered and helped maintain or build the trails that you frequently use, those of us that do could really use the help. Thanks. <climbing down off of soapbox>

craigcraigcraig 03-31-11 05:00 PM

i was just kidding so next time I'll bring the soap box so you don't have to carry it. Must be heavy. Surely there are more bikes to gawk at as things are finally thawing, well, most places.

LuMax 03-31-11 05:05 PM

Sorry to have gotten off on a rant craigx3, but it always amazes me when I meet riders who have been riding for maybe 5, 10 or even 15 years + and when you ask them if they ever volunteer to help maintain public trails all you get back is a blank stare.

But I agree, time to see some more sweet rigs.

Here is my Specialized Hard Rock 29er Sport disc.
Very comfortable on the trails and on the road.
I have put dual head lights and tail lights for night riding

Just did my spring overhaul. Switched to 1x9 and added a new derailleur, bottom bracket and grips. Now if I could find somewhere close to ride it.

That's one cushy lookin' saddle! Usually the lever for the seat post quick release points to the rear on your bike so that the lever sits flush against the clamp. 65psi is great for pavement rides, but definitely drop down to 25-30psi if you take it to the trails.

I dig the white/black color scheme. White rims!

It is a Cloud 9 saddle good catch on the post latch i will have to fix that

Recently traded the Fixie/SS I hardly ever rode for a beater MTB. Old Gary Fisher Aquila.

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...9_890923_n.jpg

Needs a bit of love, and my dog needs to get out of the way, but I can't wait to get back on the trails. It's been way too long since I've had a MTB.

Wow! Nice video man. Did it take a long time setting up those shots of you going by?

no not really. place the camera down, start filming, get on the bike ride back up to a starting point, go past, ride back to the camera, stop it and go on.

it was like 30 minutes total in film. then i just compiled the video. That is why I look a little slow to lol. But thanks! i dont think it turned out to bad for self filming

I was thinking that they are the Dart/Smoke white tires. Umma Gumma's were grey....well, at least until all the rubber wore off (after one good ride in dry rocky conditions that is!)

They're old WTB Enduro Raptors if I remember correctly, 26x47/54. They desperately need to be replaced, and I'm having a hell of a time finding them in that color. I should probably just go with black, but I really like them in that color. Lame, I know :)

I'm in the same boat, I still have a pair of green Michelins on my Giant. Best to get new tires as rubber ages and gets harder over time.
