Problem right now in Ohio is that it is super cold one morning, then it warms up and rains...the trails are always closed unless you get out while everything is frozen....unfortunately I am one of those working stiffs.
I am thinking about heading to Florida for a few days between Christmas and New Years...prob taking the mtb with me.

Well like me there is just nothing exciting to post about. No job and just riding all the time. Not that my posts are much to crow about anyway.

The switch over to the new software has sucked. I'm on another forum that has changed it's software/format completely, and members have just plain up and left and started a new forum with the original software that everyone liked, were used to, and wasn't broken.
The switch here has been problematic, although I can assure everyone that it is being fixed step by step.
As Ed said, stick around, things could get quite interesting. In that light, things are what you make of them. We are posting here, aren't we? Let's do something with it. Surely there's some good stuff to discuss here, like how I suck as a moderator.

I can't even get on the new forum at work. Browser locks up, yea it's an old edition of IE, but still, WTF??? I guess I did most of my bike foruming at work? Definitely need a good character on here again, the best are of the unintentional comedy IMO.

Early season, when I'm still in mountain bike mode, my mental process sometimes switches back to bikes mid-run. This invariably leads to me seeing a kicker I'd hit on a bike, and then crashing because I haven't a clue how to land that thing on a snowboard. Luckily this hasn't happened the other way around yet, though now that I'm thinking about it, maybe I'll stay away from skinnies next spring, just in case.

I had a GREAT ride yesterday on some semi-local trails I haven't ridden regularly in nearly ten years. It's quite a network of trails in a fairly large area, easy to get lost if you don't watch what you're doing. It was so cool to get back out there and find my way around. Only came off the bike a couple of times, and both times went back down to the bottom, started over, and road the tough sections clean the second time around. I love mountain biking!!!
The weather was coldish (low to mid-40's) and very damp (misting most of the time). It felt great! Riding on the road would have been miserable. In the woods, it was awesome.
I HAD to post that somewhere, and this thread seemed somehow appropriate-

well biked's last post is a great example of the good fun this place offers. I find the thoughts of going back down to try a tough section of climbing over again......well,alien. If it takes too much effort to climb,I'm just walking it,nooooooo problems. I want to save something for the ride back down. What is wrong with you people.

I ride with some people like that on Wednesday nights. I don't getit either. Sure, it's cool to clean a climb but I'm not going to obsess over it. I agree with ya, 66 - - way too much fun to be had on the trail to waste all that energy on the unfun stuff.

Hey, everyone has their own strokes and that's cool. I'm just saying I don't get it. Doesn't mean I think it's uncool or wrong . . . I just don't get it, that's all. Don't take offense, wb.

Where I ride, there is a pretty cool technical section that climbs up a rocky valley. Probably 4/10 of a mile from the start to the top…once you get to the top, it is even more fun to come back down. Lots of rocks, roots, switchbacks, etc. It is always a challenge no matter how many times you have been through. Personally I think it is the best part of the trail system. Some days I ride up and down it over and over trying different lines and having a blast working on my riding skills….other days I just want to pedal and could care less if the trail wins a few along the way. It is all good as long as I am out pedaling.

I haven't phased back to the desire to clean Uber Tech climbs though. I suck at skinnies. Never really had the desire to work on that technique.
I would like to one day go somewhere where I can do a moderate climb for an hour or two and enjoy a 45min DH. This is a good goal for me.

Then I guess I'm as dumb as they come. Unfortunately, when you're whole riding world is in a major river drainage, EVERYWHERE you ride involves going up at some point.
But you can't make me enjoy it .
BTW, Terry66, is that Hood?

Well I have to admit, the latter looks much more appealing to the former ...but a reminder (refresher?)-if all you ever do is bomb down hills, how the hell you get back up em? Push? Thumb a ride in someone's truck?

After giving it some thought what we need is more noob "know it alls" like Jason222, and the elf... a couple of Pete's, Gastro and Never to post regularly.Ed,B2,Santiago,Jerkyard,and D to turn it up a notch or two. Throw in a bunch of thinned skinned folks to keep it fun and you have info and entertainment all rolled into one.

We did a trail over the summer (shuttled with a 2nd car) that was 16 miles total.. the last 12 miles of which is mostly downhill.. the whole ride took 4 hours with breaks and waiting up for my wife. But you would be suprised how much your arms and thighs work.. pumping brakes and standing up in a downhill position for an hour or more at a time. It was very physically demanding.. but totally awesome.

I've seen way too many snow boarders with one foot unclipped struggling to push themselves forward on flatter sections of trail. Yes, I know I can just ski the steeper slopes, but every now and then I feel like taking my time coming down.

I like short bursts of climbing too. Gives me a sense of accomplishment. And, I have gone back to the bottom of a hill to try it again once, but I mostly just keep going and try to do better on whatever's next.
