Thanks for the interest. I probably should slow down and post a shot much less frequently.
The elk shot was a big surprise. I only took the long exposure to get the shot. I saw the silhouette of the elk in the faint light and it worked out that it showed its progress along the ridgeline in that 20 seconds. The rust colored striations are what you suspected.....lichen/moss on the rocks. You are also correct in that there is a drop off. It's further than what you projected.....probably a couple hundred yards (the camera angle is somewhat deceiving). |
I'm a bit surprised that there are so few posters in this thread, we need lots of pictures from you all.

Amazing shots. So many places to visit someday. Thank you all.

A recent shot from above Loveland Pass in Colorado.....an otherworldly sunrise scene.

I've been admiring all the amazing photos you folks have posted for some time now. So I thought I'd contribute with one I took today at Long Lake - west of Ward.

Nice shot. Was it cold up there today?

Thanks. It wasn't too bad along the trail and out of the wind but exposed in the wind was pretty chilly.

Beautiful photos from everyone. I just got back from Breckenridge on vacation and ya'll are already making me want to back up into the mountains again! Here's a few that I took while up there:

It has taken a bit of time to get through all the pics....just incredible.....I feel like I am in one of those very expensive downtown galleries looking at these.
ccd and others, you must have more than a passing interest in taking pictures. Thanks for posting. :) I do have a question. Sometimes on Bike Forums the pics show up automatically and sometime I have to click on the link for them to show. Is there a way to make them always viewable with my BF settings? Ooops...found it! |

Just got back from a multi-day hiking/photography tour of Colorado. Lots of new photos to share, but I thought I would start with this one since it relates to bikes. The guy that owned this home built was on a hike when I arrived. His girlfriend/wife somewhat pensively stated he was planning on riding it down the east side of the pass (think very tight switchbacks and several thousand feet of elevation descent)! No hand brakes and the seat was broken.....I was certainly hoping that discretion was the better part of valor

May I, or would you post this pic over on the bike ride photo thread of BikeJouranal? .......proper credits to you of course. |
Sure, go ahead and post it. Thanks for asking.

Been dying to share this one.....because in my mind this view is unparalleled in all of Colorado (and this is just one direction). This is looking south from Handies Peak (14,048') toward the Grenadier Range and Needles Mountains of the San Juan Range.....between Durango and Lake City. I climbed it again this last Wednesday.....after last climbing it almost 20 years ago. I didn't take a photo then, but definitely wanted to get one this time.
THIS.....is one of the reasons why people climb!: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/IMGP6171.jpg |
That's a grand photo ccd rider. I'm also seeing Windom, Sunlight and Eolus in the back row. You must have had a pretty early start for the climb.

Thanks, Shifty. I didn't actually get my usual "alpine" start (typically pre-dawn). I rolled out of my Jeep at around 7:00 am, then lumbered (I used to hightail it when I climbed it the last time:-)) up to the summit by around 10:30 or so. Of course I was taking photos the entire way (some nice flowers), and it was my first climb of the year so I was not in "mountain" shape yet. I took several shots at the summit, then started back down by 11:00. It was a good thing, because the storms started building by noon and I got back to my Jeep just before they hit up there.
