Ha, that's funny...we have the opposite commute. I just bought a folder. It's a no-name Chinese brand that's actually in the shop right now because it needs some work on the brakes and gears.

Boisty, if you're in Pt Pleasant, you could check out the Jersey Shore Tri Club, they do a lot of rides and swims in that area.

Thanks Chris, I'll do that. There are also a couple LBS's around here that have group rides which I will check out too as soon as I get a little stronger. Thanks again.

Bikes: Trek 930 SHX

Hey all, I just dusted off my Trek 930 that has been sitting in our shed and brought it in to get tuned and get new inner tubes this morning. I think it should be good to go by this weekend. I live in Edison and I actually haven't biked at all since I moved back to Jersey from college in Philly. I used to ride from my apt. in Manayunk/Roxborough via Kelly Drive to central Philly, but I'm talking maybe 8 years ago. I play competitive v-ball all year around but its not really helping me lose a few pounds. I started running this month and wanted to incorporate biking into my workout. Thinking about going out this weekend for a ride. I have a garmin forerunner 305, and bought the cadence sensor which I have yet to install...

Anyway, it is nice to meet everyone!

Hey... A week or two back, I was stopped at a light and I ran across someone on a folder. He said it was a fixie as well. It was on a Thursday or Friday, I think on Imman or Grove or one of those streets. One in a million, but was that you?

I'm actually a woman so no, that wasn't me, lol! I've never seen anyone on a folder around here. They don't seem to be too popular for some odd reason. That's why I was forced to buy one online. Hey, if you ever want to go riding, let me know. Also, do you know any good bike shops? I took mine to one last Friday and the guy told me today that he hasn't even looked at it yet---so I'm shopping around.

Haven't found a shop I'm totally happy with. Kim's on French Street in New Brunswick is okay, but I'm not completely satisfied with their work.

I'm a big fan of halter's in North Brunswick but they've been superbusy this summer so I wouldn't recommend them strictly for speed.

chech out our Jersey Devel Century on September 15 (no rain date) starting at 8am from Parvin State Park (in Centerton, NJ). there are 25/50/100 mile sagged routes. bring $19 and a helmet, we'll ride!
hope to see you there!

Hmmmm... Donut. The Pitman bakery have the best donut in South Jersey. You just can't beat the cream filled donut thats not from chain store. Unfortunately I like them too much.

I hope to be there! I've just printed the membership for Wheelmen and will fax them tomorrow. I'll be on my Fuji Team bike. Cheers.

leancorp,

the eclairs (pitman bakery) were their best (it's been 20+ years...) !

as far as the south jersey wheelmen "Jersey Devel", i'll probably do the 25 or 50 mile loops (blue cannondale sx500), then will be running sag (blue dodge ram-50) for remainder.
spin safe!

I'm in Middlesex County but I've been to Jay's Cycle Center in Westfield a couple of times in the last 6 months, and they've been pretty decent about things. Actually, I bought a hard tail and a full suspension MTB. They seem to have a steady stream of customers coming and going, but I don't know how they are about repair turn-overs. www.jayscyclecenter.com

Good Luck !

I don't know how far you are from Morris County, but Marty's Reliable on 202 in Morristown, NJ is a great shop. There is also Cycle Craft on route 46 in Parsippany. They both have web sites and more than one location,so there may be one near you. I am especially fond of High Gear Cyclery in Millburn, NJ. I find great bargains there. I think High Gear has another shop in Middlesex county as well. Check their website for particulars. I have delt with all three shops and have never been disappointed. In fact I took my internet-purchased road bike to CycleCraft for assembly 6 years ago. They were more than happy to help me. They did not hassle me even though I did not purchase it from them. (It was the only way I could afford a nice bike.).

I've used Planet Bike in EB and I'd be careful with new bikes from them. I took my bike home and discovered that the handle bar tape is wrapped backwards, the wheels were left loose (quick release was not put on 'with a dent in your palm' pressure and a few other odd-n-ends. I've since corrected those problems (except the tape). I really should have done a full inspection on the bike but I was more interested in getting in my rides than anything else (no I didn't get hurt or anything). I've had good work done by The Bicycle Rack in Hightstown and the The Bicycle Hub (?) in Matawan/Marlboro on Rt 79.

The first place I went to was Jay's Cycle in Westfield. They did a good job, but it took a long time (a week) for them to do a tune up. I've had a couple of other minor repairs done at the Bike Stand in Scotch Plains and the turnaround time was very fast (a few hours) and they seem to know what they're doing. It's a small shop, but you can tell they are very serious about what they do and don't seem to be in it for the money.
