Bikes: '15 Raleigh Willard 2, '14 Lynskey Sportive, '10 Lynskey R230, '?? Burley Duet Tandem, various others in various states of mobility.

I use Brielle Cyclery also. They are always very accomodating. Turnaround can be slow during the summer months, but all in all I have been pleased.

I'm from Central Jersey (Rutgers New Brunswick area). Just getting into cycling, building my first SS right now. Anyone know where I can cop some 27" tires?

Highland Park Cycelry seems to be pretty competent, but very expensive. Kim's is a good, friendly store, but I've had problems with their work. Bike n Gear seems to have the best price on accesories (gloves, helmets, shorts), but I've never used them for work.

And I think every accesories purchase from Bike N Gear is 10% off.

But if you wanna travel north west - Cycle Craft in Parsiappny or Martys in Morristown.
I was at Marty's in Morristown yesterday during my lunch break and they have a 40% off on Cycling Jersey.

South Jersey my whole life. Moorestown to be more precise, I mostly ride around town. Though, I want to do some riding around Cooper River Park. I always run that river for rowing practice and I have always wanted to ride it...

Is anyone from the Camden area? I'm probably going to be working at the hospital there and living in Philly, and I'd like to know if the commute across the Ben Franklin Bridge and around town in Camden is doable (i.e. won't get me shot and/or robbed).

I picked up a Miyata 610 a few months ago and was in the same boat. Kopps in Princeton had 27" gumwalls and tubes in stock. But I went the mail order route and got some schwalbe marathons from harris cyclery : https://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/tires/630.html

Who wants to ride on Sunday? Starting out around noon, 40 miles.

I sporadically commute over the Ben Franklin Bridge (from Philly to the Rutgers Riverline station) and find at least that portion of Camden to be safe enough. Rutgers has uniformed campus police. My biggest worry is actually that the Ben Franklin walkway is only open between 6AM - 7PM, weather permitting. So I try to make sure I can get across in time. As a backup, you should be able to take your bike on PATCO or any NJ Transit bus, but I haven't had to do that.

As to the ride itself, it's a gentle uphill (and downhill, obviously), around 1.5 miles in length I believe. There's a short segment on the Camden side that is very narrow, and you need to carry your bike down 3 short flights. There's a ramp on the stairs so you can roll your wheel up when returning.

I might do a 40 miles Tomorrow around Somerset area starting at Johnson Park. I found this route from Rutgers Cycling website. You can check out some of their routes - they usually start at Highland Park Cycler y. www.rutgerscycling.com

We're headed out for our first 2-day tour this Saturday and Sunday, leaving early Saturday, 50 miles from Edison to the shore. Staying in Red Bank overnight, then headed back the next day. Call my cell if interested, 732-986-7547. (You can always meet up with us halfway and do part of the ride.)

Thanks to njmosr for inspiring this!

Both are good shops, but I would go to the Bike Stand first for any repairs. He really knows what he's doing. He even does welding and braze-on work. For a good price, go to Pro Tour Cycles on Route 22 across the street from BJ's. It's behind a Flower and Plant place. Pete is a friend of mine, and he'll always give you a fair deal,

Thanks Juan. I've never been to Pro Tour so I'll give him a try too. The Bike Stand is closer to where I live and he's one of the few I've come across who knows what to do with a folding bike, which is what I have.

Bikes: One at a time these days

Holmdel, NJ here...an old roadie back in the saddle after a few years off.

Didnt read all 248 posts here. As for shops Brielle is very good, Tom's Cyclery in Highlands is a true pro shop with excellent reputation and The Peddler in Long Branch a great shop with lots of high-end bling ask for Mike the owner, great guy.

ciao

Hey Aikidoka, finally finding someone in my area! I'm in Middletown but half my rides go through Holmdel. Maybe we can hook up sometime to ride together!
As for Tom's shop, he's a great guy with a nice racing history, but his shop is almost empty, unless you want a beach cruiser for Sandy Hook weekends. I rode with his racing team however, and they wanted to kill me (no, it was their way of riding...)
