Steve, the Hudson Trail is nice, but around Keyport is the worst part. Middletown to Highlands has nice scenery but can be bumpy. Matawan to Freehold is very smooth (it's the newest part).

Steve, you can find the detailed map at https://www.monmouthcountyparks.com/p...nry_hudson.asp
The start towards Freehold is very close to the Keyport one. Btw, on the road to Freehold, there's a 2-mi stretch on the road, but it has a wide shoulder.
I'd love to come but I'll be on vacation. Neilfein was interested I think, but didn't have time to go with him yet. I prefer weekday rides... if anybody wants to do the Henry Hudson or Sandy Hook on a weekday, beginning next week, let me know.

All you northern Burlington County people - where are you? I hardly ever see other roadies - I spend most of my time in Bordentown, Springfield, Chesterfield, Mansfield, and even get into Upper Freehold in Monmouth County. The roads are nice - good shoulders, little traffic, nice farm country. Kinda flat, though.
When I head up to Washington's Crossing to get some hills in - I see cyclists everywhere.
Does everyone in my area drive elsewhere to ride?

Just did the southern portion today (NeilFein's suggestion) and it's a little tricky to do alone (get back on where it breaks), so I recommend following someone or bringing a GPS. It is really smooth and a nice way to do 22+ miles. I'll try to get a crossover map together, but here's some maps that give another take on it; better scale:

Thanks to Michael Lee and his wife Mary for directing me today!

Just did 10 miles of the Delaware and Raritan path starting from Landing Lane in New Brunswick today. I was surprised to find out that, around 4 miles into the path, it starts getting very, very rough. Anyone know if it lets up further south? The leg of the trail heading north from Trenton is nowhere near that rough.

Kimmer99 and I met up for a 20-mile ride on the Delawarte and Raritan towpath, starting in New Brunswick. She's great to ride with!

Kimmer99 and I in Johnson Park in Piscataway, NJ, after a 20-mile ride on the Delaware and Raritan Towpath.

Sounds like a plan. Here's the route I took today, including what we did on the path. If I got this right, we start at the border of South Plainfield. (When you zoom in on the sat photo on the bridge at the turnaround point, it looks like the bridge we turned around on... I think.)

I was born and raised in Hunterdon County ... now live in Plumbsted Township, Ocean County (near Great Adventure). I miss the hills! HC was a great place to ride ... I drive up and ride there once in a while.
My rides now, are mostly around New Egypt, Allentown and Upper Freehold Twp. ...

Anybody saw these NJDOT rides at https://www.monmouthcycling.com ? (in the lower right)
They're mostly on public roads, but many sound interesting. I want to try the Battle of Monmouth first, since at one point it comes close to my house.

Freehold, Sprignsteen and Fed's pizza. Temporary, as I am moving to NYC in the near future. I think I'm the only fixed rider in town.

I'm usually out on that road by the Y and Canon from 4:30 on, on weekdays. Heading for the shore, today.
I do have to emphasize my newbness.
