talking of law, i heard the most ridiculous blood boiling crap today.
i had cleared the snow in front of my house because i did not want the melting snow to become a lethal ice sheet. today a neighbour told me that he heard that if people fall in front of my house, the fact that i had cleared it meant they could sue me for not clearing it adequately and black ice caused them to fall. if i didn't clear it at all, it would not be my fault but the local council's fault and this is why most people do not clear away snow.
people suck. F them.

I know here we consider acts of mother nature as unforseeable events 99% of the time, and thus we are usually not liable for them. It might be different up north though where they get bad winter weather

get this. the london underground is being sponsored by a loan shark company. the annual interest rate of their loans is like 2,890% or there about. they are regulated to state this % so it is right there on the posters to see. loan sharking...legitimate business.

I don't think the UK uses the comma as a decimal marker but as a thousands separator, like the USA

loan sharking. when asked about this, the mayor said they are registered and regulated so they are a legitimate company so we can take sponsorship from them even if they do charge "extortionate rates". his very words.
can you imagine bloomberg saying that?

Loan sharks actually charge less than those companies, from what I hear.
They have the same thing in the USA. Payday loans. They forward you $100, then when you get paid 2 weeks later you pay them back $115. $15 on $100 is an APR of 390%, but EAR of 3,685%. Crazy when you think about it. Someone that is regularly taking those loans is nothing but 2 weeks behind on expenses. Just 2 weeks. If they were any further behind, they couldn't pay those payday loans back. So for being 2 weeks behind on expenses, they are getting 15% cut out of every single one of their paychecks. Crazy.
In DC they capped the APR% at 24%, which is the max any other loan/credit place can charge. All of the places went out of business and there are currently no payday loan companies in DC.
Some of the new financial regulation that is getting put in place from Obama's big financial bill is going to cover that sort of stuff, but not that much.

My apologies. I never knew if it really was poop or not. The snow looked mostly white in the moonlight, but there was something off about it.
The jumpsuit made me look like a toddler dressed for disco. My mother did have a tendency to overdress me to go outside in the cold the point of looking like Mr. Bib, so this is still correct.
It must have, because I can't remember things that happened last week, but I remember that event from 30 years ago clear as a bell.

Dumb story:
When I was little, I had this sweet red polyester jump suit with a belt that I wore one year to my aunt and uncle's house for Thanksgiving. They lived on a dairy farm. It had snowed early that year, and there was a pretty good amount of accumulation. Snow is fun, so I went outside to play with my brothers and cousins. They were all a bit older (brothers are 8 & 12 years older, cousins about the same). It was dark out and at some point I decided to eat some snow. It tasted funny, like there was probably dirt in it or something.
My loving siblings started laughing at me, and said I'd eaten cow poop. Of course eating cow poop meant I was going to turn into a cow, or so they said, so I ran screaming into the house. My parents and aunts and uncles were all inside the house, sitting around a table playing sheepshead. They all asked what was wrong, and after I'd blubbered out that I'd eaten poop laden snow and I was going to turn into a cow, they told me to turn around. One of them shouted out "Oh look! You've already grown a tail!" and pulled on one end of the belt that had come undone. I burst into tears. They all burst into laughter.
Good times.
