I've resorted to just shoving wads of tissue up my nose instead.

I wonder how good these home remedies are when you have already gotten sick. It may be like closing the barn door after the horse has wandered off. they might be good as a maintenance way to prevent getting sick, so i regularly drink green tea and eat garlic and ginger.
also lemonade made from water, squeezed lemon, maple syrup and as much cayenne pepper as you can tolerate.

I have one that works reasonably well after the fact. simple overdose of garlic. I take it in the form of high-allicin capsules but chopping up fresh garlic and eating it in spoonfuls of honey works as well. (you won't taste the garlic)

finally someone who appreciates my cures! cayenne is the best instant remedy for congestion. hot water, teaspoon of cayenne...drink fast. splutter....feel opened up. instant.

and so far my best preventative remedy is simply to clean the ears with hydrogen peroxide often. You'd be surprised at how well this works.

oh ok.
the garlic remedy is the only one that actually has clinical data. garlic is a potent antimicrobial.

I personally vote for ginger tea. Take some ginger root, cut it up into coin-like slices, boil the heck out of it for 15 minutes or so, sweeten with honey.
Eff the garlic.

I'm really scared that one of the addiction thread docs is going to come in and see all this quackery and explode.

I got these from an herbalist last spring when I had some lingering respiratory distress. It cleared up for good. They were quite expensive though.
