We have walk-ins for "sick" visits 6 days/week, no appointment needed, 8-11AM....

I hope they get you in today.

Georgetown. All appointments, no walk ins (except ER of course). If I can't get in there today I'll probably go to a walk in urgent care place just to make sure it isn't anything. Feels like I'm getting a bit of hearing back though, who knows.

hey quel, make sure you see the appropriate specialist and don't accidentally see the ass doctor. my friend has some wicked stories about the kind of stuff people have to get extracted from their ass when they go to A&E (ER to you).

Got an appointment to see an internist at noon. I don't remember sticking anything in my ear, so hopefully there will be no good stories for him to tell.

That's a good start. They will look into your ear canal with an otoscope and see if the eardrum is occluded with wax. If it is, they may clean it out or tell you how to do it. If the eardrum is visible and is red, you have an ear infection and they should prescribe an antibiotic. If the eardrum is gray (normal), then they need to check if you have fluid in your middle ear. This is usually done with a tympanogram, a pressure test. That will most likely have to be done by an ENT unless your primary care physician is a pediatrician. If you have no fluid in your middle ear, you need to see an ENT and have your hearing tested.

Good luck.

Thanks. The advice the internet audiologist gave me was to immediately see an ENT if it was anything but wax. He said he wouldn't trust a GP if they just say it was fluid, since they don't necessarily look for some of the other more rare things.

I think it's my caucasian ear with the sticky wax. My asian ear with the flaky wax is okay.

Whatever you do, don't bother with ear candles. Totally bogus quackery.

You nonbeliever.

Next thing you will be telling me the "healing crystals" I bought don't work either.

I forgot how cheesy that movie was until I was watching it last night. The other day I was chatting with someone on Facebook and I noticed that Pearl Harbor was listed among her favourite movies. It took restraint to not make fun.

If it is just wax, when they flush it out, be aware that it may throw off your equilibrium momentarily.

I once knew someone who had to have a cockroach removed from inside his ear after it crawled in there when he was asleep. Perhaps that's what you have.

This is a coincidence. Last evening at the party there was a white guy married to a Filipino. She was nice but seemed like she might be somewhat airheadish. She thought (but wasn't sure) that she may have flushed her pager down the toilet when she was using the bathroom. It was a curious incident.

No, healing crystals are still good.

I will cop to having tried ear candles. It didn't do anything, so I burned one down and it looked exactly like the one that I'd stuck in my ear. So stupid.
