Did you see the burntime charts for the Princeton Tec systems? The Switchback-1 does 4.5 hours on high (75m distance, according to their chart), the Switchback-2 does 5.5hours on high (102m) and the Switchback-3 does 6 hours on high (113m). Pretty crazy. 2-hour quick charge too, and it comes with a 12v adaptor for use in a car power socket. Seems great, assuming they work well!

About 10 guys/gals from the team had em on their bikes this weekend. I will get some feedback from them and see what the consensus is.

on the way home there was a guy on a fairly expensive (ie. computer, clipless pedals etc) bike in front of me that just didn't look right. so at a red light i stopped to ask him where he got it... he said from BoW, and when i said it looked like a "friend's" bike that was missing, he said he had a receipt in his pocket... just in case anyone hears of a stolen norco road bike...

ps. now i'm glad i didn't try to force myself to ride this morning. i'm sure it was nice and everything, but i'da been pi$$ed missing some much needed recovery sleep from the weekend.

What's the wattage on these lighting systems? 25w system with 6 hour runtime, DIY is like close to $300.

I don't know what wattage is but it doesnt really equate in watts as they are LED. All I know is guys were riding singletrack at the same speed as daytime so I would say the wattage is enough for almost any application. If you want to do DIY one of my customers who is an elevator repairman is bringing me some sick batteries. He ran this weekend using said same batteries and none of his guys needed a charge all weekend. They were using em for everything including around the campsite so runtimes are not a prob. They are 14V not sure of the Amp hours tho.

Oooooo you may have a customer. I am pretty tired of rolling the dice by borrowing lights. I have followed far to many people out of the forest in previous years. although.... my friend's DIY did once light his camel back on fire....

Coming from Wisconsin (last summer), I can assure you that you will pay more. Much more. I have Bell Sympatico here. I had the same level of service in Wisconsin (via SBC) for less than half the price. And the customer service actually worked there.

Just get really accustomed to paying way more for way less and you'll be fine.

I was going to recommend magma.ca, my provider (now a subsidiary of the evil primus), but I won't. I'm locked in to highspeed at $33/mo and it appears their service through primus is ~ $45/mo. No problems with magma but I've found primus to be fools on the other hand. And I use rogers pay as you go for phone. I use my cell phone probably once a month and there's no flat rate which I believe there is/was, with bell.

Jet, yes, I saw the Gardin an hour or so after it was posted. But a track bike is utterly wasted on me. I'm too unco-ordinated to skid and I'm not sure the upright geometry would be optimal for some of the crummy roads I ride at speed. BTW, I hate Kingston road eastbound....

FWIW, Kingston road westbound is just as bad I rode both east and west between vic park and brimley today, and the right hand lane is full of potholes/filler. The little descent at the Danforth split is fun though.. but I had some trouble with my bag. I use a cheap shoulder bag with stabilizing strap, and it tends to start drifting off my back when I start spinning/bouncing.. any tips on keeping a bag stable when spinning out down a hill?

I'm assuming those batteries are the lead-acid batteries from emergency lighting. You can get them at Active surplus (or at least you used to be able to) I had a setup that would burn 6hrs at 30W. The downside: the battery weighed 5.5 lbs!

I used them at a 24hrs of adrenaline in 97 or so, and they worked well

So myself and my better half decided to take the plunge and bought a 20" I-Mac. I of course was naive enough to think that Mac=no hassles. After roughly 5 hours of use discs won't eject and the browser was doing all kinds of weird things. T.J. the Mac master came by last night to help remedy these problems. After an hour or so of tinkering and messing about with it all seemed fine. Of course 30 minutes after T.J. left the &%$*#$%* thing crashed on me AGAIN with the screen going completely blank. I either got a lemon, am absolutely terrible with anything computer like or just have bad luck. Back to the store with it today. Is it too much to ask that a brand new $2000 Mac operates the way it should?

must be a lemon, we gots a 20" imac and it's been hassle free except for a short episode with Parallels, which we decided sucked and don't use now. Thought it'd be neato to run Windows in a window for our shipping software while remaining OSX for all other things, but Parallels fux chit up, and switching from OSX to XP takes about 4 secs less with bootcamp as it does with parallels. So we run XP for shipping and game playing, OSX for everything else = virii free computing.

whatever you do, be sure to ditch that one button mouse with the grippy side buttons, as a former PC lifer person I have never been able to come to terms with mac mice and trying to use them deteriorates a bodies quality of life. I need 2-3 buttons and a wheel, sure it ain't as pretty but it works.

Make the imac work and you'll be better off for it, comparably it is hassle free computating, and prettier, quieter et al

I have pulled my hair out on several occasions due to XP problems but I always could sort em easy enuf and I have had this XP piece of crap in the shop for going on 5 years now and it still works. Anyone know where Steve Jobs lives? I have a big eye-poking stick for him.
