Just to get things rolling - pun intended, you're welcome Dan - I was hoping to keep it a local-ish thing. But as the idea is to have fun, it is open to all - fixed or brok... I mean geared. And I did put up the flyer thinking that maybe a couple people might put them up in local bike shops. Then this week I've been thinking, "don't over do it. One week at a time." ;)
It's funny, I'm trying to keep it a managable size to start basically because I've never "run a race" or anything before and as I mentioned, I'm not really that competetive, but people are coming out of the wood works to try and sponsor this thing. That said, there is a distinct possibility that this could include prizing and whatnot in the very near future. What do you guys think of that? Btw, there's no way in the world I can do much "organizing" of anything as I have a pretty busy work life that tends to bleed into spare time quite a bit, which is why I keep saying "it's all about fun". I fully encourage everyone to take part in molding what this sucka grows into. |

Based on IPs, same way everyone else (eg. iTunes music store, www.pandora.com, etc) does it.
Speaking of which, a friend of a friend of mine had his pirated copy of MS Office "phone home" via the Internet to rat him out and he got banned on Xbox Live because the IP was the same. Pretty effed up! |

A similar thing happened to me, I was downloading Final Cut Pro and rogers limited my bandwidth, so my connection was extremely slow and they gave me a call saying if I want my normal bandwidth back I'd have to delete the downloaded files, so I burned them onto a disk then deleted them, and my interwebs was back to normal. :p

The torrents work just fine but you cannot download them anymore as you cannot access the site to see what you want to download. Kind of a bummer.

wtf. "Cyclocross, often called "the NASCAR of bike racing," is an on-road/off-road cycling discipline held on a looped circuit of about 1-2 miles."

Easy fix = encrypt all torrent data (usually an option in all torrent clients, I use uTorrent) - Rogers can't inspect the encrypted stuff, so they don't know it's a torrent and it's not flagged under their traffic shaping policy.

They don't need to inspect the packets. As soon as they see encrypted traffic they just throttle everything. This is the way it's heading if it isn't already. Encryption is not the answer.

Does anyone have an extra rectangular washer and screw for an SPD-R cleat? I'm giving my SPD-R pedals to my gf, and I seemingly have lost one washer and one screw to put in the cleats.
I'm more than happy to pay. The closest picture I could find (I don't need the cleat): http://brandscycle.com/merchant/278/...ll/SM-SH11.jpg |

Bottom line still is: it sucks :p |
Damn. You guys are so computer savvy. Speaking of my hard drive, my hard drive is really old and only like 40 gigs. More importantly, I'm pretty sure it is nearing the end of its useful lifespan and don't want to risk using it for too much longer as the drive on which I store things. Should I replace it and/or get another internal hard drive or should I get an external drive?
edit: How come you don't hear the term "floppy drive" any more? I like the way that sounds. "Floppy drive". It sounds funny. |

Not sure that's the case, but I don't know for sure... Throttling any encrypted traffic means peoples home office VPNs and SFTP/SSH/HTTPS would all be encrypted and therefore throttled, not sure if there are any games that encrypt their network data, but they'd be affected too...
Bottom line still is: it sucks :p It's been a red queens race since at least 2 years ago. Perhaps your area hasn't been throttled yet, mine has been since last year. The easy solution is to switch to DSL but alas it isn't available in my area. And i've been checking for the last 9 years.

Unless yoru computer is fairly new that is - then you can pickup a sata external HD. Floppy drives are extinct thanks to removable flash drives although they still retain it's use.
