I think Taylor Creek still has the grills actually on the stands, they're crap but they work I guess. I can't solidly remember seeing any in other parks. TC is a touch far, but is a lovely ride up the Don paved path to get there...

Between 3 bikes charcoal+small grill+foods can be achieved without a trailer and without serious weightage on any one person - it can be done! Propane/Butane bottles on the other hand are a different story :) Would love to do this, pick a park/locale and ride there to burn some flesh and ride back... mmhmm.

the propane grill i have uses the camping/torch bottles

not much bigger than a water bottle.
the biggest issue would be getting it home after use.

whirred. In fact, going to the islands on a Friday night would be cool too, but not something for EVERY Friday. The problem with High Park is just that it's a bit out of the way for the East end peeps. You can get campfire permits for Dufferin Grove as well, which would be fun. But they have a BYOW policy, which kind of puts a damper on things.

edit: unrelated question -- toe clip straps? can you get those pretty much anywhere? They don't need to be anything fancy. I saw The Veteran Cyclist (aka. cavernmech) using them to attach his front wheel to his frame on a fork-mount roof rack, and it seemed like a smart idea. That way I don't have muddy wheels taking up space in my trunk. :)

So many things pissing me off tonight: Girl on bike crossing east on Bloor at Lansdowne - get some ****ing lights, having to deal with that intersection road surface, the trailer AND your lack of lighting/visibility is irritating and dangerous!

More to the point though.... So there I was riding south on Lansdowne south of Bloor with the trailer on the back... having cars pass me as they can here and there as I'm on the sharrow things... Couple minutes later I'm getting to College (heading straight south) and I have "TO SERVE AND PROTECT" in my eyeball as this freaking squad car (didn't get the number sadly) buzzes me when I have the trailer on the back.... he got a swift "HOLY JESUS WEPT" reaction before I'd even computed it was a cop. I tried my best to haul ass to catch the car number, but couldn't handle the hill fast enough to cross Dundas. I've only been buzzed closely twice with that trailer on, 50% now being by our lovely law enforcement. I'm still agitated over it... I tend to let a lot slide with just a cursory yell or even nothing now, but when it comes down to towing my daughter around, I take that **** real serious... I know he heard me yell, but of course they won't stop. Oh well, there's literally nothing that I can do without a plate/car number.

Now it's the weekend though, yay!

$30/3 hours? Bonus. So what's the crack? We bring our bike and that's that?

Yeah I've had a taste of that... A few winters ago I called up after watching/witnessing two officers watching a car in front of them spend 10 minutes getting un-stuck from a snow bank. I was on my way over there to help push (after getting dressed up to head outdoors, etc.) when the guy got free, the cops just stayed put in their warm car throughout the whole thing, just sitting there watching. I called and complained to the desk Sgt. on duty at 54, the guy just said "What did you expect them to do?" I said "Umm, help the poor guy out? Serve the community?" - I was shocked... but not really - I kinda want to be a cop to make those things right some days... but I know it's just not like that, people are people, and people are *******s.

While I'm *****ing about authority, I got stopped in Union today with my bike. The guy tried to tell me I couldn't be in there first, then he told me I couldn't board a train. I repeated the "rule" to him, which he agreed with and said "Yeah, but you have to arrive AFTER 9:30" so I'm like "Errr yep, I get into Whitby at 10:01 - thanks" to which he just shut up and walked off... I kinda muttered a "Don't frigging lie to me about YOUR rules buddy" - damn people. I think it only happened because he happened to see me, and a train had just come in and there were a ton of people around - I know I can even get on the earlier train if need be, although that would technically be breaking their bikes-on-train time restrictions.

I like the cops who are at my school every other day or so. They took 3 out in cuffs last week. Just a normal week at Warden and Finch. The female was nice, sweet legs. She saw my bike hat (I wear it as my chef hat at school) and asked me if I do the donut ride. Pointless story I know but I think she was hitting on me so I just wanted to brag about it. My wife laughed when I told her I was getting hit on. Not sure what that means.

^^ The core roads are pretty alright, IMHO. You should visit Eglinton & Keele area: there are potholes large enough to *wreck* a car. There are several potholes which go so deep, you can see the drainage sewer beneath the road; I'm saying, massive amount of asphalt missing, under which there's a concrete bed with a hole in it, which goes to a sewer. I had to dodge at least 4 of those suckers today; it was no wonder there were no cars in the right hand east-bound lane.
