No, just the general commute in this morning was pretty busy. It's actually kind of nice as Dundas is slow enough that you can take the lane to pass folks without the cars getting all wrangy.

And the other consideration for package delivery, home delivery anyway, is a) UPS can never find my apartment building and either doesn't leave a tag or leaves one without ringing the bell when I'm home and b) their depot is way the hell and gone in Bumblegum Ontario unless you pay an extra $5 to have it dropped off at your local UPS store.

kylehutton 04-24-08 11:06 AM

purolator is the worst.

they only try one delivery, and then you have to pick it up within 5 days or they send it back.
their pickup centre is at queensway/kipling. such a ballache to get out there especially in winter.

Anyone know where I can get a relatively cheap 9 speed rear MTB wheel, 9 speed cassette and MTB shifters? I'm thinking about getting a frame and moving parts from my old mountain bike, but I'd need these extra parts.

Also anything I should worry about regarding putting my old fork on the new bike?

xxandyarmada 04-24-08 12:21 PM

A friend and I are in Toronto right now, we're visiting and we wanted to ride downtown but considering I've only been there twice and never paid attention to streets and what not, and he's never been here; we were hoping some of you would wanna ride or something and show us around, let us know.

My cell is 1-845-553-5549....yes I'm from the states.

I have some 9 speed shifters you can have for cheap. 2004 shimano deore rapidfire. In excellent condition.

As for the wheel try Cyclemania on Danforth.

How long are you visiting, and where are you based while in Toronto? As well, are you riding street or trail?

Critical mass is tomorrow, Bloor/Spadina i think.

Thanks pyze, I'm indifferent on colour - don't care either/or.

Edit: Doh! - you swooped in fast there, freecycle! :D

We're leaving on Saturday afternoon but we're thinking that Critical Mass is a great idea, anyone wanna rid e and meet up or something?

If we do go, he's riding a red De Bernardi Thron, and I'm riding a White Level with silver flake.

Let us know!!!

freecycle 04-24-08 12:43 PM

Ill probably be at critical mass, look for the black raleigh in my sig.

xxandyarmada 04-24-08 12:46 PM

Alrighty, If you wanna call me beforehand or anyone that wants to ride we can meet up or something, we'rre not 100% stoked about just riding with just the two of us, figured we should try to get some conncetions up here or something.

Flimflam 04-24-08 12:47 PM

I should be there tomorrow assuming getting in from Whitby on time, black Rob Roy with hints of blue stuff on it.

Last month there was a fair crowd - goes on for a couple of hours usually, but you're obviously free to come/go at your leisure - probably be equal or more people out this month, with the weather being that much nicer recently, etc. - Lots more bikes on the streets generally, so...

I think I'll be there, I saw your bike in the pic thread, shouldn't be too hard to pick you out. I'll be riding either a black fixed mtb with fenders, or a cannondale mtb with dirt drops. Both are strange looking so easy to find.

Not sure if Youtube is playing up or just my end as I'm having trouble previewing this myself, but here's some footage from last nights' ride:

seems a little sped up on my pc here, looks like it was a good ride

pyze-guy 04-24-08 02:12 PM

My wifes "new" commuter. Nothing fancy, mavic rims, axiom s/s disc hub, 39X15, 2.0 tires. Rides great, faster than I thought it would be and goes over everything. Pretty well bombproof. Total cost was $19.99 for the saddle. Everything was from parts I had.

Flimflam 04-24-08 02:19 PM

Yeah Jet, there's a bunch that seem to show up now - it's great.

Video is sped up to fit onto Youtube, it's a 26 min. video squeezed into 9:59 - I paused recording in the break we had (flat?) on Bloor, so this is everything after that point. I have the first part from the square too, but it's only basically going up Yonge.

Nice build there pyze - obviously SS? Be a great commuter/errand bike fo' sho'. Are you fitting fenders on it for all-round usability? No need if wifey isn't going to ride in the crappy rain, though.

freecycle 04-24-08 02:21 PM

agreed, its a nice commuter pyze, id rig her up to be a pack mule, she looks like she could haul a crippled horse :)

pyze-guy 04-24-08 02:24 PM

Single speed for sure. She's going to give it a try and she if she likes it. She likes the idea of no gears so it should be good for her. Can't get fenders to fit the tires. They are huge. She's also a fairweather riderr so no rain for her. I'm just happy she wants to ride to work.

TRaffic Jammer 04-24-08 02:24 PM

Makes me wish I'd stuck around for the ride. Is a little sped up though. FlimFlam..what camera is that?

+12 for converting another one

Yeah, the speed is hard to deal with - trying to squeeze the footage onto Youtubes' 10 minute limit, as well as finding a medium that doesn't look boring to watch (real time bike video footage is pretty boring from my personal experience with all mine :p).

Camera is an Oregon Scientific ATC2000, I have it mounted just before the headtube (as you may've seen TJ) right now, but have had it on the bars and my helmet in the past too. Quality on it isn't bad, but I leave it on medium/low to get extra time on the 2GB card - Youtube butchered this one, looks pretty sketchy, but meh - it's a night video anyway.
