yeah.. I'm confused. The opening is this weekend isn't it?

I thinking about creating an accurate skeleton on some riding pants in glow-in-the-dark or reflective ink. I know it's a nightmare the way I want to do it though which is visable from several angles. Any ideas?

I was gonna keep it a secret, but since you asked Jammer check this stuff out. I'm using some of the powder to make my bike frame glow in the dark but the powder can be mixed with just about any sort of pigment, the paint is perfect for use on clothing. Be aware though this isn't your usual zinc sufide that glows weakly. This is true rare earth phospherence based mostly on europium its very strong and very long lasting. Even more so if exposed to a UV light source. The other thing is that United Nuclear doesn't generally ship to Canada but if you phone and ask really nicely they will usually ship but take no responsibility if it gets confiscated at the border.

Just wait till you see my bike, I may not have reflectors but you'll never miss me.

TJ: if you're going to use that sort of stuff, you might be better off just making some stencils. I find stencils usually make more sense than screens (for simple artwork) unless you're going to be doing a whole bunch of copies.

my wife drives an echo (the yaris predecessor (sp?)) and it's a good car to have if you want a simple machine that is fuel efficient (2nd in canada after the smartcar) and won't give you mechanical headaches. i thought i recognized the model...

I guess that's for gas cars.. not hybrids or diesel.

i don't know about hybrids, but the SMART is a diesel engine. and the echo as pretty close in a consumer reports thing the star did a while ago.

I think it comes pretty close, something like 32 mpg city, 40+ highway. Not bad at all. I'd actually buy one if I was going to pick up a new car. Cheap, reliable transportation, for a car.


If I had the cash, I'd buy an echo and put the high reving four/6 spd manual from the celica in it. It would be a 2100 lb go cart.

oly problem with the yaris is you would always have the back seats down if you needed to move anything larger than a toddler in a duffle bag. So for bikes you would need to disassemble them or put them on a rack. I'd go for a stationwagon personally.

Forgive me but, why would you not be allowed to have competitive pricing? Smells like some sort of price fixing, racketeering monopoly cartel to me.

It's because of the memberships..... we pay a slight fee for the cheaper prices....it's a co-op not a full on retailer per say

There's competitive pricing and then there's selling known-value items at cost just to get people in the door. Product makers don't like that because then all their other retailers get pissed off (no chance at competing so a lot of the time they just stop carrying the product ... ie. turtle lights). Worst case scenario, they find out that their products are being tossed out the door for cost so that the retailer can sell someone ELSE's product for the real mark-up. That'd be messy.

my wife's echo is a 4 door sedan with a proper trunk, i don't know how big the yaris is in terms or storage space but i can fit my bike in the trunk with the wheels off. the trunk is quite deep though so you can fit a whole lot of crap in there. enough car talk though.

Isn't that what "free markets" are all about? The manufacturer gets their price for it... no? Are they afraid MEC is going to drive down the street price because the other stores do the usual 100% mark up from the wholesale price and MEC doesn't?

perhaps they are afraid of that. but small bikeshops can't buy in bulk the ay MEC can. they're a co-op, they should be working for fair pricing for their customers and fair wages for their employess, not undercutting local businesses. i would expect this type of business pracitise from a large corporation, not a members' co-op.
besides which, they seem to have strayed from their original practices whereby they would produce and sell their housebrand of clothing, etc to cut the costs of distribution. now they seem to be selling castelli and some other brand names just like any other large outdoor's store. i dunno..

Yeah, I like driving too.. living in Toronto has considerably dulled that feeling however. I'd like a wagon also, but I also like somewhat sporty driving and without spending a buttload of money the two are pretty exclusive of each other.
