i should add to what TJ said - lots of base miles and some hill work and intervals in the summer.

There's two ways to go about it, but we all know who wins in the end.

TJ: Thanks for the ticket. I'm going to the velodrome on Saturday with my cousin, so I'll let one of the other deserving people grab my ticket. Thanks very much though!!

I am going to be using a solvent to strip some thick paint off a fork in a few weeks. Does anyone have anything that they want to toss into the cauldron? I hate using the stuff, so I want to make the job worthwhile.

I was hoping too. Apparently you guys filled it up, so I'm hoping someone isn't able to make it so I can sneak in. I am in London for other stuff so I thought it would just work out. Then I was told it was full!

Question for everyone, my buddy Will is a pretty fast marathoner and wants to get into tri's. I think more the sprint tri's, rather than Iron Many, but perhaps he'd move up. Anyway he wants to drop about $2k on a bike, and isn't sure if he wants a full tri bike or a road bike.
Any thoughts? I was thinking the Cervelo Soloist, which is a pretty good cross between the two. I don't think he wants a full on tri bike because that's a pain in the ass to ride around anywhere but a race.

if he's new to cycling i would suppose the race bike (or for that matter, crit-bike) he's most comfortable on would be the best choice. he can always install aero bars if he wants. what about a specialized roubaix / allez?

I'm not sure if I was still accounted for in the list of people going for tarck 1, but I'm pretty sure I won't be able to make it.. if so, you're welcome to take my place.

I'm often amazed at how often I run into people I know from cycling while I'm out and about on my bike. It's good times! Today I had a kergin spotting on College (didn't have the reaction time to yell out, sorry!), Casper scared the hell outta me on Queen St, and then 10 minutes later I saw Monsieur Pyze.

I'm now part of the club as Cindy has asked me to put together a spinning program that will probably start next week.

If he doesn't have a bike now then a road bike is a good choice. He will need to do some training and tri bikes aren't known for their good handling and comfort. The Soloist would be a good choice. As Jeremy mentioned he can always toss on an aero bar for events and he will be on a bike he is comfortable with.
BTW here a pic of my latest toy, a Javelin Barolo.
