It'll be fun to see all the bikes on the road.. but not the bajillions of extra cars and their pissed off drivers.

I remember the last substantive ttc strike. It was worth your life to be riding a bike. I narrowly missed getting crushed by a van slamming into the curb. Give the cagers more of a cushion than usual. There'll be a lot of twonks out there if TTC goes out.

Interesting cycling-related parts of the city's "contingency plan" in the event of TTC strike (from https://www.toronto.ca/ttc-disruption/index.htm):

Reserved Cycling Lanes:
The curb lanes on both sides of Bay Street, between Queens Quay West and Yorkville Avenue; Queens Quay West, between Lower Spadina Avenue and Yonge Street; Dundas Street East, between River Street and Broadview Avenue will be designated for bicycles only. Vehicles will be prohibited from stopping on sections of the roadway designated as bicycle only lanes.

Bicycle Parking: A temporary bicycle parking lot will be set up at City Hall, on Nathan Phillips Square. The lot will provide additional spaces for the many commuters who will need a downtown location to lock their bike.

Bikes: Menonite black urbanite, probably enough spare parts to make anther one.

good news about the additional bike lanes - i would've thought that the city would go the other way and designate current bike lanes as an additional lane during a strike to squeeze more cars on the road. i tell you, i almost got smacked twice while out riding today within the span of about two blocks....and then the drivers yelled at ME when i gave them a piece of righteous indignation.

also: i forgot how much fun coasting can be. yeah road bike build. oh...uh, fixed gear and such.

*is anxiously twiddling fingers due to helmet being "in transit".*

Mebbe its the paranoia, but the thought of 1.8 million impatient/inexperienced/taxi driving/impatient taxi riding monday commuters to dodge, when the front brake i thought i had brought with me is actually a back brake and my skull is protected by cheap sunglasses and a cap has me somewhat worried..

happy belated 4:20 to those who recently rolled a spliff/were too stoned to remember 4:20 and are now looking for their papers to cash in on the remnants of the moment.

Trust me, if it is going to strike tomorrow, nobody in a car is going anywhere in rush hour.

Post Paris-Ancaster:

- Keith took 1st in the 35k singlespeed class!
- Wes beat his time from last year by an hour for some serious pwnage (wooo*zoom*ooot).
- I did the ride in 2:43:58 and placed 44th in Men's 20-29. Yay for not completely sucking!

That was super fun today. The time for sunscreen is officially upon us...working a sweet farmers burn. With each successive ride on my 29er I only love it more. I only had to run (well running is a stretch) the super steep section on the very last lung buster right before the finish. All the muddiest downhill sections were a blast....flying down the middle while all the others were clinging to the sides with their bikes shouldered. GOOD TIMES! While there were only 3 guys in the S.S.35km (one D.N.Fed and the other was dead last) giving me the win...I did manage 38th out of 350 starters and 8th in the 40-49 class...altho cause I was registered in S.S., I only got classified in that category. My time was good enough that only 7 guys in my age group on geared bikes had a better time than I did. Looking forward to Mansfield next weekend.

Oh yeah....Wes...you won a pair of De-Feet shoe covers in the draw.

Apparently the finish area was a black hole of no-service for some cell phones (so sayeth Wes). Let us know how he did when he gets himself back home!

And ummm ... I guess Rob-but-not-Rob doing the race didn't happen?

I just realized I have the most ridiculous "long sleeve base layer with the sleeves pushed up just above the elbows" tan lines.

The Ed has arrived at the homestead.

He and five other people from the MEC team got extremely lost during the second half. Also his front brake went all funny and he had to ride a large part of the race with it unhooked. They took about 5 hours to do the race, beating, in his humble words, "a bunch of fat people and mountain bikers" (lolz). He says he had lots of fun though. Go trial by fire!
