Finished up the initial build now, put the tape on finally last night.



I'll get a better pic in the day time one of these days.

I might put more housing on for the vertical cable section, and I'll be changing pedals and chain soon. Otherwise probably going to stay like this for a while, other than adding fenders for the crap supposed to hit later in the week.

"Crank the Shield" anyone heard of it? 3 day mountain bike race in September, i plan on racing it with a friend from work (if i can keep up with her) looks like fun.

Donmills/Lawrence is a wasteland. Dusty as hell right now as well. My commute was Pape-Overlea, Donmills to Sheppard, across to Warden, upto Finch. Not the most scenic of routes for sure. Only good thing is the am/pm commuter lanes that 99% of the drivers respected.

Nice canti brake. I found they stop okay, but IMO the brake pads suck. I like the fact the are v-brake insert pads. Must get to mec and get some koolstops.

Not yet, but planning to flip the wheel and go SS for offroading perhaps later in the year. I want to keep it fixed until I get another (don't have a spare built wheelset to easily change for tyres, etc.)

pyze: Thanks, I got those Tektro's from Urbane you mentioned. Pads seem OK so far though I don't have it super tight, so no endo'ing anyway - but they're very fresh - I'll be getting Koolstops for them soon enough, I'm sure.

Granted I've never used canti's before so they stopping on my bike seems sluggish compared to vbrakes. The tektros look so awesome.

I took the same route, but my destination was a few blocks north of sheppard, when i replaced the wheel turns out it was a pinchflat from the damn potholes, this was at night and commuter lanes were no longer valid.. ergo potholes..

Anyone else hate it when you hear horror stories of bike stores screwing people over just so sell a bike?


long story short, a friend is looking to buy a SS/FG and from what i'm hearing, the store is trying to sell him a frame (no fork) only to get it out of the store.... no names though.




BAH i forgot what my point was. Anyone work at store with a couple 57cm entry level fg/ss bikes that a friend can look at?

I dunno - there's nothing unethical about selling stuff. Unless there's more to this story than is being told. Or the item is being misrepresented.

build/buy can be misconstrued sometimes, specially on a hectic day with loads of customers all wanting either or.

but if its malicious, they are jjerks.

it seems like they are trying to sell him something that needs to get moved out, rather then what he is looking for and answers to questions aren't being answered, like about sizing and weights. Looks like there attempting to sell him a frame with out telling him the size.


I'm just kinda bummed because it seems like a an employee is trying to take advantage of someone who is new to biking




I say "seems" because I'm only getting one perspective on the situation. I will go over there and check it out my self and try and get the other side of the story. Hopefully its just a misunderstanding between my friend and the world.

We do their bike's at C.S. Parliament. I have built up several so far this year, including one the other night for our old missing comrade Bikeophile. Nice frame...butted steel...1 inch threadless..chromed head lugs...nice eccentric B.B...Full fender +1 bottle braze-ons...butted steel box crown fork...understated graphics with a nice wet paint and the clear is a Sikkens purple hue I think. The geometry is towards the sport/road end of things so it isn't a racing type of ride but super comfy. No short reach sidepulls unfortunately, but with full fenders in mind, I guess they had no choice. The build kit is really nice as well...Anodized Formulas on Alex deep rims...Vittoria Rubino's...144 bcd IRO style cranks w/ a nice solid 1/8 ring. I am not usually so shameless a shill but I really like their bikes. A Canadian company producing a mass produced bike that doesn't look like one.

Somnambulant and I were going to do it...until we decided on other events (som is doing S.S. World's..I am doing Grand Premio de Guatemala) It will be a really epic ride. I was looking forward to working/riding it but the cost was a bit off-putting. Chico events are top notch and you will have a fantastic time. Say Hi to Johnny in Bike Security..He and Red have yer bike safely taken care of.

We have Paddy Wagons, Bowery's and Tri-Cross's in the entry level price range. Does he want a frame or a whole bike?

I can yell "!HEADS UP!" so loud that everyone within 75 feet will jump straight up in the air.

Last week two overweight 60-something suits found themselves in my path (center lane on a three lane avenue) as they proceeded through an intersection on a Don't Walk signal. It was AM rush hour. I yelled "WATCH THE SIGNAL FAT BOY" and am sure that fifty other pylons heard it too. The two dudes looked at each other in disbelief that someone would speak to them like that.

I am a bad person. I think my road bike has a demon that possesses me when I ride that bike.

Had a nice slow roll cruise across town last night from the east end, even right on Cherry Beach the wind was low enough to still feel fairly warm down there in shorts/t-shirt.

Nice! Do me a favor: convince a first time buyer / commuter that they NEED an Aerospoke. Imagine the glory of an Urban Express with a pink Aerospoke in the front. Beautiful.
