somnambulant sounds like you need your hub looked at soon.

jeremywhitehorn your offer sounds tempting 100k not sure i have it in me + i'm a bit slow! I’ll see closer to then.
Cheers

i'm no speed demon either, believe me. don't let the 100k mark scare you, quite doable if you don't push too hard. and easier when everyone you're riding with is on a fixie.

somnambulant 05-20-06 08:53 AM

yeah, it is that hub, which is why I updated and said it's a job best left to the pros. I think I'm going to bring it down today.

Additionally you can often buy some time by removing the axle...peeling back the rubber seals on the bearings (an exacto knife works well for this) and cram some fresh grease in the bearings. For the record as well you can use the axle and locknuts....some big washers....and the old shot bearings to press in new cartridges. I used to do this on my own hubs before I got the proper tools.

Wusssssssssssssssss

By the way, that Lakeshore route wasn't that great. High speed traffic the entire way there and back. Kind of lamezor. Good thing next weeks ride looks nice.

somnambulant 05-20-06 02:17 PM

well, I finally got some Phils on my bike...

...

ok.. they're just Phil bearings. :P

Strida's have been around for a while. This one looks like they've made some improvements.

Here's a couple of reviews

I'm on monster watch (kids) tonight.

sweep242 05-20-06 05:32 PM

Weather not looking good for Sunday but Monday can we all swing a meet up? Quick coffee, maybe a ride down to the beach?
Cheers

somnambulant 05-20-06 05:35 PM

sounds like a great idea if the weather forecast is accurate.

operator 05-20-06 05:37 PM

They should change weather forecast to weather random guess. I'm up for Monday however.

Yea this work back injury sucks !! but I got another Doctor who is going to get me a CT scan so I can get back to work and racing ( hernia is a common thing ) once it'sfixed I promise not to drop you all to often on rides:D

operator 05-20-06 09:03 PM

Right. Is Kensington open on Monday? Heh. I'm feeling the empanadas.

Ill Mitch 05-21-06 01:26 AM

I'd be up for a ride on Monday maybe a bit later than 12:00 on account of many parties happening sunday night.

But whatever time works for everyone else would be good.

TRaffic Jammer 05-21-06 11:53 AM

mmmm had me a spicy beefpatty and coco bread yesterday....yum
Pulled an allnighter doing a design thingy....groggy..
Waitin' for the shower then off to daughter's pottery birthday party.
I might be up for a spin on Monday. I'll check in later.
Steeker.....ouch dude. Rest man....we don't heal like we used to ...

cavit8 05-21-06 01:20 PM

mmm... beefpatty and coco bread... I love the Only Cafe's coco bun...

I hate gusty days like today, especially crossing a bridge. I'm either getting gusted into traffic or onto the curb. nice choice. Made a samosa run up to O'Connor and Vic Park what a heinous ride.

STEEKER 05-21-06 02:09 PM

Having Pizzaaaaaaaaaaaaaa with Dad and watching 40year old virgin later.......... yuppers resting up so I can go on th CM ride hopefully CT scan during the week then sue WSIB for a years worth of wages ( that'll get me a nice bike from Cavernmech)

thanks for the steak recipies all; i'm interested to experiment with flank steaks. my mom used to make that quite a bit (i guess to save money), now i know how to prepare them. anyway i ended up just straight up grilling my t-bones after rubbing them down with seasonsing salt, turned out marvelous. hope everyone had a good ride on sat.; perfect day for it. i ended up getting rained on while riding out in the sticks but no matter, i needed to get some riding in to balance all the meat eating and beer drinking.
i forgot to ask as well: has anyone here heard about sheldon brown? man, i hope he finds strength somewhere; i'm not sure how i'd deal with it if it were me.

operator 05-21-06 06:19 PM
