speaking of coffee...

Coming up on TV Ontario, cable 2, Monday,
one of the best economic documentaries of the
past decade:

BLACK COFFEE
Like millions of other java-addicted consumers, you
probably make a beeline for your local coffee shop
every morning, and willingly shell out as much as $4
for a tall, non-fat latte. But what you pay for your
morning fix equals a day's wages for the millions of
workers who harvest the bean. Black Coffee provides
an intriguing glimpse into the dark side of the brew,
which is the second largest trading commodity in
the world after oil, and like sugar, has been
instrumental in promoting the slave trade.

It takes me around 1.5 hours to get downtown.

gboy 05-22-06 06:59 AM

I guess I can be there for 1:30 if the weather holds. Thanks sweep for the directions!

darkmother 05-22-06 07:13 AM

That was a nice relaxing ride-I enjoyed it. Your GF did great, especially for her first distance ride. She'll be doing a century in no time.

I rode up to Newmarket and back on my fixie yesterday.... cross wind from hell. Surprisingly, I really didn't miss having multiple gears. Even on the odd hill it was fine, and I felt pretty fresh even at the end. I didn't appreciate the hail-nasty day.

Sirrobinofcoxly 05-22-06 08:41 AM

CV HIJACKING!

As 32flavours' loving former room mate (and considering she is away camping this weekend), I feel that in the need of a good group ride I am going to make a friendly hijacking of CRITICAL VACUUM for the Victoria Day edition.

Anyone down? 9pm at the usual secret meeting place? (parking lot behind Honest Ed's)

eyefloater 05-22-06 02:07 PM

Aaand, back.

Garage sales were a bust, but I did end up in Flint, Michigan (at a Nascar-devoted dive bar) to drink some ****e American beer and watch a race. Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline, Ted Nugent ... not your typical Toronto jukebox selection, but an interesting change of pace.

I hope the FFL training ride went well. Any new-comers this week?

32flavours 05-22-06 03:20 PM

Hey now! I get busy for a little while and you guys stage a mutiny?!

Uh... so does anyone want to go for a ride tomorrow (Tuesday) night?

P.S. Robin, you will pay for your treachery. PAY!

operator 05-22-06 03:22 PM

Yeah tomorrow I finish class at 9 so.

I hope the FFL training ride went well. Any new-comers this week?
We would've had ..... 6? if you guys showed. In other news somnambulant is a ******.

sweep242 05-22-06 08:36 PM

Well hopefully we will get more peeps out when it gets nicer a little chilly, breezy but not bad.

Traffic jammer you need to pawn the kids off to the wife more often & sneak out for a quick coffee (are we the only ones with kids?)

Take a look at what i picked up on ebay kind of cheesy but hey.

TRaffic Jammer 05-22-06 08:49 PM

That's CSI time isn't it? All us old guys aren't allowed out then our eyes are bad in the dark making us more prone to getting burnt for something. At our age they'll just let us spend the night in jail if it's too late. I'm looking forward to CM and :beer:beers:beer: Sweep .. I do tend to get homebodied, even my wife tells to to GTF out sometimes.

eyefloater 05-22-06 08:49 PM

Speaking of that Lemond Fillmore, Tektro RX2.0 cross levers should be about $30CDN (yes, I just remembered our conversation at Urbane now - I'm sorry).

eyefloater 05-22-06 08:50 PM

Oooh yes, CM again this week - sweetness. And I have Friday's off now, which means I can actually be there for the start - OMFGYAY!

Thanks for the props! It was cool to meet you guys (Sweep, operator, Cavit8) at the Kensington park.

Hey Sweep, your IRO is a stealth looking bike, especially with that bad-ass stem! I can't help but think of H.R. Giger and the Alien Trilogy (I'm not aknowledging the travesty that is the the 4th film.) :)

P.S. I love empinatas, er I mean empanadas!

:D

No worries! Unfortunately, I already picked up some cross levers. :o

Now I'm on mission for some cool bullhorns...

CM this Friday! Hope the weather stays well...

operator 05-23-06 02:11 AM

Nice to meet you too

Cool bullhorns? I dunno here goes:

Having tried on sweeps stynace stratos (sweep just what's the width of those? Base & at the bar ends?) and having ordered 42cm. I think they'll be too small width wise for me. My road bars are 44cm and I love them.

Profile says they make the 44 version but no one on Earth actually sells them.

Also 32flavours what's with the 9pm thing, assuming that's pm. Cause if yeah then i'm going to ride down tomorrow instead of ******ing it out on lamez transit.

Ill Mitch 05-23-06 02:16 AM

I have 42cm bars and they're perfect for riding around the city in tight traffic :)

operator 05-23-06 02:17 AM

Man I hardly ride in the city. :P Calendar for next couple weeks-

This friday - Crtical Mass
June 4th - Ride for Heart (must do)
June 10th - Road trip to teh vel0dr0me

*rubs hands in anticipation

Ill Mitch 05-23-06 02:19 AM

Well 1cm off each side shouldn't be too much of a difference.

operator 05-23-06 02:51 AM

X-men episodes on youtube - w00t

gboy 05-23-06 11:06 AM

Well, I'm off to TO; If anybody sees a guy in a yellow windbreaker with a brodie romax, 'tis me.

UM they are 44 base 42 at the horns.

32flavours 05-23-06 11:46 AM

Man it's gorgeous outside today... shoulda ridden to work. Unfortunately, I completely mauled my knees hiking 7-9 hrs/day all weekend so if we're riding today I might have to skip out early on account of gibbledness. So... is there any interest in a Critical Vacuum for tonight? Bueller?

Yessss

Darkmother, was that a shiftmate on your bike?

POS server ate my reply. Yeah, it's the Avid version-rollamajig. It works really well so far, I am happy with it. If I didn't use it, I'd need a tandem shift cable.
