Wow, so so so so so glad they are letting us out at 2pm. I feel like a 6 year old with ADD waiting for recess.

TRaffic Jammer 10-06-06 12:10 PM

lucky bugger

jeremywhitehorn 10-06-06 12:12 PM

you people and your office jobs! damn you, i'm slaving away all weekend.

wow- i didn't know that about brooks' pricing. that seems like a hell of a lot to spend on a saddle 20 years ago.

TRaffic Jammer 10-06-06 12:14 PM

Unless I've completely lost my mind I'm almost certain that's about what they were. They've always seemed to be in a different stratosphere.

jeremywhitehorn 10-06-06 12:20 PM

i think i paid about $60 for mine a few years ago. what is the equivalent of $100 20 years ago today? i can't imagine paying that much for a saddle...

I've just been told that I can actually use spd* style pedals with my sidis so i'm looking for something cheap and/or used so I can go clipless!

I was actually going to suggest New Balance for their durability. Mine have lasted shockingly well for a couple of years now... I haven't had a pair of sneakers last more than a year for as long as I can remember! And I wore these while travelling around Europe last year too (and a couple other trips), so they've seen a lot of miles. Plus I think they're a little more labour-friendly than most other sneaker companies as well, although I think they've been getting some criticism recently about their use of factories in China. So, maybe those days are over for them.

So, nobody's up to anything tonight?

Ill Mitch 10-06-06 01:14 PM

I'm up for it, but Ematei is a tad expen for me right now. There's a wicked place at the corner of Dundas and McCaul.

It's a Korean/Japanese joint.

The Mtn bikes a bit scummy and the cross bike is ready to rock.....you may borrow either for the day if you wish. The cross cannot see extended periods of pavement tho...my cross tires do not like pavement.

lymbzero 10-06-06 03:19 PM

I'm up for a saturday ride through the don... although.. that means i have to put brakes on right?

My MTB is also available if you like. It's pretty oldschool though....2" travel forks-I am a luddite.

I probably can't get to the trail before 2 or so on sunday.

somnambulant 10-06-06 03:31 PM

you might be a luddite, but I've never owned a bike with suspension at all.. back in my hardcore mountain bike riding/racing days in the early to mid 90's I was riding a rigid (steel) Giant ATX-780. And that means I've never ridden a bike with suspension off road. The only bikes with any suspension I've ridden at all were a rental bike in Vancouver and a couple test rides on mountain bikes in parking lots. :P

(edited for coherence)

STEEKER 10-06-06 04:27 PM

operator 10-06-06 05:02 PM

K - donut ride? !

Shiznaz 10-06-06 06:08 PM

The bike is great! I haven't ridden with gears for so long, its pretty fun. I managed to snap the chain (!!!) already, so I took out the damaged link and put the chain back together with my chain tool. Now the cassette is making funny noises every so often. How many links can I remove before the chain is too short? Also cantilever brakes are annoying to adjust (at least for me). Chris king rear hubs make a crazy buzzing noise when you coast.

Also gears let you go really really fast. Its astonishing, and I wasn't even using the big chainring at all.

n. How many links can I remove before the chain is too short?
It's too short when you go big big and your bike explodes.
Also too short when your RD is nearly horizontal on big big.
