I think that frame looks pretty crappy, judging from the welds and the finish. It doesn't look too comfy either, what frame would you put the Record group on? If you have a sweet Record-worthy frame already, then yeah, the deal is pretty good. BD doesn't ship to Canada but you probably already know that. If you don't have a frame already and intend on riding this bike, might you not be better off getting one of the lesser deals but with a frame that might be somewhat good like the ones that have carbon stays? Do you really have to have Record?

I don't have a frame but its half the cost of anything else I've seen with those components. I know the wheels and frame are sub-par but, from my early research, it seems its alot easier to find a gorgeous frame then it is to find a super cheap deal on components. I was thinking abouty riding the frame/wheels until I find/can afford something perfect then switch it over and use the bottechia frame for a single speed or something.

Yeah, you are right, a great frame is easy to get and there are some great frames for great prices on eBay all the time. I was drooling over this Orbea, it would be awesome with the new Record group.

Considering that full retail price (I know...full retail is for suckers) for the group without wheels, stem/bar, saddle/post, or tires is about $2500, I would consider that a smokin deal. So what if the frame and wheels arent the greatest. Tell me you wouldn't get $200 for the frameset on Craigslist in a heartbeat.

So I officially don't have a ss/fg bike anymore. The Pake was gutted to get parts for the gf's Crosscheck build (which she loves and is now commuting to work on for the first time in her life). Until Keith provides me with "le hook-up" I'm rocking a Devinci CX bike. Gears are fun, but my commutes have been so much longer now that I take the "scenic/filthy" route whenver possible. Good times. :)

PS. Happy birthday, Keith! Now that you're 21 you'll be able to drink in the U.S. w/ the rest of us. ;)

I have a old Raleigh 3 Speed sitting in my garage that I never use.

If I remember correctly, it's from the 60's, it's yellow, has fenders, coittered cranks, a internal three speed hub in the back wheel. It's likely a 58cm, perhaps even a 60cm.

Problems: makes noise, coming from either the BB or the crank. No seat. Also the handle bars were switched from the ones that came with it to drops. I don't have the original handle bars. The tires are cracked, though they work fine.

It's free for whomever wants it. If I may ask a favour of the new owner, is it possible to get some help taking building up an old Raleigh (different one) that is about to get powder coated (I don't know how to install a BB or headset) I would really appreciate it!!

*Yawn* Hey guys I'm back in town. UAE and Oman were amazing! I'm determined to go bike touring in that area in the future now. I'll post a couple of interesting pics from arabia, and some bikes I photographed in Munich that I thought were cool.

I came home and my chain was all rusty because I hadn't ridden on it for almost 2 weeks. Quite a shock!

I'm going to see it this afternoon. Pan's garden is on my see list too.

I saw Children of Men and I thought it was good. Some of the scenes are great and if you are a film nerd like me you will be impressed by some of the shots this director pulls off. Amazing, very original stuff. It is the same director who did "Y Tu Mama Tambien" and the third Harry Potter flick, the dark one with the werewolf.

I've heard good things about that movie.

As a parent, Harry Potter and the reading he inspires... priceless.

Operator can't compose a post longer than five words (including computer acronyms and boolean symbols), so reading a novel is probably a little beyond him ;)

I'm also anti-potter, but I have never read one so its easy for me to say that. I'd probably enjoy them if I read them, but theres a million books I would rather read before then so I may never find out. The movies are sort of fun and I gather the books are very similar, so they can't be that bad. If I had kids I'm sure I would have read and re-read them all. Anything to get kids reading is fine by me, but I'm not a kid anymore and I already read. I still have never read any Kafka, and have a bunch of books waiting to be read. Hell, I even have a Hemingway lined up just so I can say I read a Hemingway (they never forced us to read old man and the sea in high school). I also want to read some Capote.

I feel the same way about potter as I do about the da vinci code. Potter got kids who might not read to read, and da vinci code got adults who might not otherwise read to read. Thats great for those people, but they don't really offer the intellectual and emotional kick I like to get from reading.

i was working at a bookstore during the first round of harry potter mania (ie. keeping the store open until 2 am so we could be the first store to legally sell the book on the release date and people lining up in costume to buy) and while it drove me crazy i think it's probably better for kids to get excited about that than a tickle me elmo. they seem to actually read the books too which is nice. i've never read one.

for now i'll stick to grown up books. check out the next great american authors: jonathan lethem / dave eggers.
