any of you boys have a longish (120mm or so, 25.4) quill stem that you'd want to swap for something (such as equivalent in threadless)? i like the length of the stem on my winter bike but running a threadless w/ an adapter is bugging me.

I don't think I've ever seen a 120mm quill stem. I have an 80mm here on my desk that you can have, but I guess it isn't much use to you.

Oh they exist. I used to use a 120mm on my Bianchi before it crash and burned. It was a $7 Zoom stem from Urbane. I'll see if I can find it.

I am stupid, I just measured the stem on my Bianchi and it is 120mm. It just sounds really big when typed out. Uhmmmmmmmm.....That makes no sense at all, time for bed :)

Dang, I'm off the bike altogether. I just got myself a floor pump, and soon realized I haven't had properly inflated tires in about 15 years. Running at about 90 psi, I busted a spoke after four rides or so. Is there a rule of thumb regarding, or any correlation between, tube pressure and wheel lifespan? Or should a good wheel be able to take any hit from the road (provided your weight is off the saddle)? On a related note, anyone here jump curbs on 700x23 tires or similar? Is that a recipe for disaster, or, if landed smoothly does it have minimal long-term consequences to the wheel integrity?

If landed smoothly you can huck a racer off a loading dock, or ride it down the stairs. Not recommended but it can be done.:D

As long as wheels are well built with decent quality components you shouldn't have much trouble with them. Keeping your tires under inflated will lead to damaged wheels. Having them at the correct pressure will only increase the lifespan. I ride 23's on the majority of my 700c wheel size bikes and never have had a prob jumping curbs...or stairs for that matter. Again as long as you have them at the correct inflation you should have no probs. If the wheels are old..and/or have cheap quality components, especially spokes, spoke breakage is not all that un-common.If you continue to have spoke breakage problems, and if the rims and hubs are still in decent shape ie: bearings are smooth...no dents in the rims...you can have them re-built with good quality stainless spokes like D.T. or Wheelsmith. This would solve the problem.

yeah, once inch quill, 25.4 clamp in whatever angle is level to top tube (-17?). aethetically something like the old ttt or something (but nothing fancy), you get the idea.
