I know I've seen some info on this here before, but who around town is recommended for minor frame work? I need some rack boss eyelets added to dropouts. I'd have a crack at it myself except it's aluminum and so requires to be welded.

Alu frames cannot be re-welded. They are heat-treated after welding for strength and this heat-treatment will not allow further welding. If the drop-out is big and beefy enough you could just drill 2 holes in the dropouts and have em tapped...prolly the only way. I did this to my IRO to install a rear fender. Clamps suck a$$.

I racked my brain and I can't remember, I think it was a 44T or maybe 42T. The ring I was just using was a 46T and I got a 42T and they both suck (too high/too low) with a 16 rear.

That makes me want to build a bike just to brag about the wicked wheel.

You don't like 46x16? That's what I was running for the past 2 years. Most of the time I enjoyed it. It just got slightly mashy if I was tired and/or drunk. I just switched to 48x18 when I swapped out my cranks though.

I thought 46/16 was the ideal zen combo. I want to switch to 42/15 is I can my 15 cog from my s/s hub.

I ain't getting up that york mills hill on a 46x16, not without requring knee surgery afterwards. Remember I was a massive spinner on my road bike. Totally not an ulrich.
