So I survived my century. Went with a group of about 10 riders from my club. They insisted on stopping at all 4 rest stops so it took a bit longer than ideal. Weather and scenery were perfect. Somehow strava says it was 99.3 miles even though I did the full ride. Maybe I can complain and get a refund??

I watched the GCN videos on the new SRAM electronic wireless shifting system. Honestly it looks pretty good. I am so not an early adopter and will almost certainly stick with my Shimano 10 speed setups for the next few years. But in the future I may try something like this. I hope it is a winner for SRAM, they seem to have fallen out of favor in the court of public opinion lately. Competition and innovation is good for everyone IMO.

I thought of that. If I were to get a pro rata refund it would be less than a quarter since it was $25 for the ride. I think I will just eat it, so to speak.

I wouldn't have bought the frameset without a test ride. They let me ride a 56 with some dirty snow on the ground. Di2 with 404 tubulars. I think it was $10k. It was dirty as hell when I brought it back.

I bought the BMC at the LBS. First LBS bike purchase in a long time. After the test ride, I told them the R&A price and asked them to bridge the gap. They did.

Either way, customer service sells.

Took off from Ward to go down, and they have been grinding the surface of the road. It sucked till we hit the fresh pavement, then it was marvelous. First time riding Super James all the way to the P2P. Dirt still sucks.

So-so up until today. It's the first when my lower half hasn't felt as though someone has been fiddling about. So, still slightly tender, but on the whole, the first day I have felt human in a week. So sadly, my medical certificate runs out at the end of today. So it's back to work tomorrow.

The other unfortunate thing is that I am still off the bike for another week. The surgery scar is healing nicely, but I don't want to aggravate it by jostling it. So I have to find other ways to occupy myself...potting up a plant for Machka's office, and some puttering around in the workshop area.

Pro Peloton.
I was giving them my credit card for the frameset and the phone rang. John answered it and told the person to come right in. As I was getting ready to leave, Taylor Phinney rolls in with a busted seatpost clamp. He tells me the Time Machine is his favorite bike. I feel nice inside.

Looks like I got all of the use out of a tubular that I could. Only about 3k miles, but on a racing tire that's not unexpected. I had put sealant in, in hope of stopping punctures before hand. I got a small tiny puncture, and the sealant didn't plug it up. I put more sealant in, but it still leaks from the same place. I think the outer rubber has just gotten too thin to hold air properly.
Veloflex Carbon is my next planned tubular

Casually Deliberate
Today was my 54th birthday. This was my cake. I bought it from the bakery inside the WalMart where I work. I had intended to get cupcakes to share like last year, but then I saw this cake with my two favorite colors on it and had to have it.
One of my friends said, "You bought your own cake. That's so sad. Someone else is supposed to buy it for you." I said, "That would be nice sometime, but I'm fine with buying my own cake. I saw this cake and it was the one I wanted and at this point in my life I'm not sitting around waiting for someone else to get me a cake or buy me jewelry or go to a movie with me. It's groovy if it happens, but it's not necessary." Speaking of presents, I may be buying myself a Thomson seatpost for my birthday. The one the Charge Ladle is currently attached too is not very good or adjustable and my saddle has developed a tendency to tip up in the front if we go over much of a bump. (I know. I know. I need to stand going over them and then my weight won't come down on the back of the saddle and tip it up.) That means that instead of the weight being comfortably on my sit-bones, we're now dealing with all lady-parts all the time and that sucks. So, I need something with more adjustment options and LoP saw one in one of the local shops and I go in and bust my ass at work sometimes eight days in a row so I deserve it. $50 is a good chunk of change though.
Two people called in today in my department but I thought it was a pretty good day. I decided since I had to work, I was going to wear a tiara. I went the cheap route with a pink plastic- not a Disney princess- one with fake white rhinestones. It was so much fun. It made the customers smile and some of them asked if it was my birthday and sincerely and energetically wished me a happy birthday when I said it was. Little girls and some big ones ooohed and aaahed over the sparkly pinkness of the tiara. Some people applauded me for going to work on my birthday. Everyone was lovely.
The surprising thing to me though was the response from my co-workers. I said "I figured since I had to work on my birthday, I should at least be able to wear a tiara." Several of them, after already complimenting me on the tiara, said, "Oh. Is it your birthday today?" Well, yeah. I said, "Did you think I just got up this morning and said 'It's Sunday. I think I'll come to work wearing a tiara'?" One of my friends said, "I can see you saying 'It's a day. I think I'll wear a tiara'." So, that's apparently the reputation I have.
And therefore, and because there are so few organized rides once September arrives, and because we usually have warmish weather at the beginning of September, I am mulling over the idea of trying to put together something like the WNBR only on a much smaller scale to celebrate my birthday next year. But my next birthday is a long way off and who knows where we will all be by then.
