Great climbing ride on the TT bike this morning. Something like 35 miles & 2000ish feet. Not bad on a TT bike. We have a wind advisory today, but it was calm when we went out so I kept my 60mm deep aero wheels on the bike.
I was having such a great time, thinking how comfortable I felt riding this bike which seemed so weird to me when I first got it. Then I almost got taken out by a crazy crosswind gust while descending at 40 mph. Not exaggerating, my front wheel was pushed 4 inches to the left by a maybe 35 mph gust. Somehow it didn't freak me out, I just corrected and didn't even come out of aero. Then a minute or two later, I was a little freaked out. Came up onto the horns to give it a think. ;) Cut the ride short and headed home after that. But still it was a great ride. When I got home, the house was full of hungry people. Really? Can you people not feed yourselves in my absence?! Just kidding, they were holding out for something homemade. They got a turkey pot pie. <Extra credit question: guess what the Heathpack household had for Christmas dinner.> http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/x...617B21E3CB.jpg |

Third consecutive weekend of Sat/Sun road nazi rides successfully completed. They're not dropping me. I keep going back because I want to maintain the speed, you can kind of lose it if you're not chasing fast guys around.

When I'm riding alone I try to focus on short power intervals (30-90 seconds) of 300-500 watts and 90-100+ rpm - those are the efforts you need to close the gaps on a fast, race-paced group ride. Takes a while to get used to doing that again. Once you do it starts getting a bit easier. I think a big part of it is just getting accustomed to intense efforts and the suffering that goes with them, a big part of that is psychological. Goes with the sport if you want to race or ride fast.
Those harder efforts don't seem as daunting as they did a month ago now that I've been doing it for a few weeks. |
WhyFi, I'm actually rooting for your boys tonight. Draft position and all that.

Well, me and mine survived last night's storms that came through DFW. Lucky for that! 11 people died in tornados :(
Unfortunately, the weather is crap here now, and will be for at least a week. I might have to actually use the trainer. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. |

I would bump it but it's been locked for years. |
I just did the zwift FTP test. I got 155W. That's awful, isn't it? It may explain a lot...

My doctor of 35 years retired last October and I have a regular 6 month checkup in an hour. Any questions that I should ask her? :innocent:

What do you guys think? At odds of 3300:1 that win-or-lose the Texans will make the playoffs with at best a 9-7 record, how will they screw it up? There must be a way to guarantee snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
