I do have a question about a case though. Problem is, there's no one to ask beyond me, the buck stops with me unfortunately. Very comforting to the owners, I'm sure, to hear me say, "Honestly, I am not sure what's going on with your dog."
I'm going to have to send him out for a 2nd opinion but I know no one else is going to know either and we will be right back to square one.

No riding tonight. I went to the city council meeting instead, and suggested they get cops on bikes with those radar things so they can ticket driver you run you off the road. My city is big into tickets, already. An ex NFL running back is in the news tonight for getting arrested for not paying his Coppell traffic ticket...
They did adopt the bike master plan, much to the chagrin of the guy who thinks bike lanes = big gov't.

...if California voters had to do that stuff involved in "caucusing", the turnout would be hovering around 4%. Don't they have the US mail and absentee voting in Iowa ? #thirdworldscenario

Speaking of which: what do you think?
Relative of a patient. I might get one of these dogs. Standard dachshunds, so way bigger than the doglet (who is a mini).
But I have a soft spot for the standards. Reminds me of my little old man, who died the summer before last. To remind y'all.
That dog loved to be snug. Aw, miss him.

Only one in five show any symptoms of Zika, so there's likely many more cases in Brazil than reported. With the summer Olympics coming, they are currently freaking out over the concern. The big difference between Zika and any other mosquito transmitted virus is the microcephaly in babies. It has also been tied to Guillain-Barré syndrome. It's getting a tremendous amount of media attention. WHO just declared a global public health emergency, only the forth time they've ever invoked this high level of alert. It was also done with H1N1, polio and ebola.
The main vector is Aedes aegypti, a daytime biter often found in artificial containers, such as buckets, tires, etc. in central and south FL and the other gulf states including TX. It will be one to watch as summer approaches.

Zika virus is in the family of Flaviviruses that include Dengue and Chikungunya virus. Both Dengue and Chikungunya moved from the Caribbean islands to Florida, so I'd expect that Zika will eventually do the same. There's been travel related cases in FL, NY, NC, TX, etc., and a few involving pregnant females. I would expect to see a rise in the Caribbean islands with local transmission before we see it in FL.

What is the normal host/reservoir animal? We have the entire transmission cycle in the states?
Obviously the microcephaly is the issue, that is just such a huge human cost.
I heard something on the news about maybe some kind of genetically engineered mosquito pest is being engineered? Is that really viable?

Well, scratch what I said earlier about not getting on the bike tonight. After I said that I finished my calorie count and realized I didn't have the option to not ride tonight! Well, now it's 11pm and I'm finally off the damn trainer...

Two years of playing out in front of rooms around here has made me a MUCH better guitar player. I play an awful lot of acoustic lead guitar and that has really made me a better player and beefed up my chops.
Turns out playing electric guitar in a band is more fun when you suck less. I'm getting asked to sit in with bands now. That could be fun, eh? I want to do it because playing electric with a full band is a whole other animal, a lot more moving parts, more difficult in many respects, easier in others, but really a blast.
Who knew?
