The physical beauty of the area (speaking for central Texas, not the Rockies, that is) is a lot nicer than Florida. And nice hills. But I'm pretty sure the weather is not as reliable as Florida. Remember, you are there during a very unique winter. Of course, compared to what you left it might always be a big improvement.
I don't know what the average highs are in central TX but if it is 50º, I'd take it for the riding. Florida sucks for biking for the most part.

Vain, But Lacking Talent
Well, I live in coppell, and work in irving, so I have a whopping 12 minute commute. If you know where you want to work when you move to DFW that's not hard to achieve. That said, I had friends up in corinth, and **** that ****. Just getting to their house after work was a 90-120 minute ordeal (it's like 20 miles, max).
I would say on average Austin traffic is worse than DFW traffic, but there are some spots like that stretch of 35E that you mentioned that are as bad as any place in the world.

For sure, there are places where the traffic pattern is mostly in your favor during rush hour and you can make it work if you plan it right. There are just way too many people who like to live in these totally isolated suburbs that have nothing but houses and restaurants and then think they can jump on 35, no problem.

Oh please, you know you're engaging in internet exaggerations. Everybody knows that in NY, Buffalo or Watertown are the cold wintery hell spots.

This winter was MUCH milder than the others I've been here for, but even those can't possibly compare to central Illinois.

My whole life I grew up in the city. Loved it. Have no regrets. That's where the action is.
But once I started a family, it was time to go.

My wife just looked up the avg. lows and highs for New Braunfels and January was the coldest with lows 38 and highs of 61. I could take that.

This was my commute when I worked and it was also what my "office" looked like half of the day.
Seriously, 0.4 mile to this from my front door.

On the other hand, recent winters had polar vortices with 20-degree temperatures every week. It's not typically a straight 61/38.

Florida ain't all that bad in the summer, working out in the field at our job sites has acclimated me, and I ride at noon if that is when I can go out. The 90/90 days can get kind of damp, though.

I can remember living in Pensacola, FL and Greenville, AL. It was miserable in the summer. I enjoy all four seasons.

Born and raised here, never knew anything different, save Parris Island for a short bit. Not that that means anything. Its home, house is fairly new, lot is 2 acres, out in the country/rural area. I'll be here till I check out. Where ever you go, there you are.

Keep in mind it is very unusual to have 90/90 days where both highs occur at the same time. Almost unheard of. The high humidity occurs in the morning when the temperature is lower, and the high temperature occurs in the afternoon and drives down the relative humidity. Not that 90 deg F with 70% relative humidity is fun, but it isn't quite what you are suggesting.
