Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I spent 3 years in Texas, but every time summer approached I got the hell out of there.

Internet sarcasm is a hit or miss proposition.

Uh huh. My wife wants her parents to move back to MN to be closer to family in their golden years, yet they keep objecting to the weather and not being able to go out in the winter. In the meantime, they live in a place where they avoid going outside from spring through fall... makes perfect sense.

My wife is trying to coax me into moving to Phoenix to be near family when she retires. I love her family, but otherwise why! 8-9 months out of the year you're hiding behind A/C. You can't even ride your bike until sundown or before sun up.

I'm always amazed at the extremes people will go to to avoid the cold. I LOVE the cold. Builds character.

Night rides are popular during the summer here. I was talking about doing early A.M. rides through the summer because it's the most time efficient, but it's also going to help avoid the heat. Even in the dead of summer, there are some nights where it barely drops below 90 overnight.

But the heat builds character.

Case in point, today's forecast high is 90° . . . like yesterday. Already Phoenix is getting into the 90s. ALREADY!

I'd rather be inside when it's too hot out than inside when it's too cold out. Even with the heat on, when it's cold outside it's just miserable inside.

That's exactly how we feel about your winter.

Well, being from Tampa originally I find NTX quite pleasant compared to 10 months of 95 deg 99.9% humidity... I NEVER went outside in FL. I think Houston might even be worse.
