Edit: Apparently I missed a few pages in there... good to hear for your sis!

Yeah, the backstory is she had breast cancer removed a little less than 2 years ago and we were hopeful that it was gone (sentinel lymph node was negative which means spread is unlikely). But it has recurred in her spine/ribs....she is getting fairly non-toxic treatment and the good news is that we believe it's working. She is only 56 and wants to stick around for awhile.

Bicycle repair

Speaking of which, to recap:

Day 1 I Took off my tyres and replaced one with a Gatorskin, cleaned the frame and wheel rims

Day 2 (yesterday) Reassembled bicycle and rode. It seems to be peppier. Was in pretty sad shape before.

Day 3 (perhaps this evening) I need to clean the drive train. Yucky.

I think if you stagger the projects over several days, it's not so overwhelming.

Admittedly a small sample, but when I did a century ride that went into the very northwest corner, some of the back roads were crummy.

But did you hear banjos? That puts crummy roads in perspective.

Speaking of banjos . . . .

Leftover samiches in the office fridge. Who says there is no such thing as a free lunch?

Jadesfire 04-20-17 09:22 AM

To the Spanish speakers in the group, how would I say,
"Could you get the next patient for us, please?"?

TIA :).

So, removing the wheels and installing the wheels were done on separate days?

I think there's something in the Geneva Convention about that purple dinosaur.

The house I just moved out of was 2 doors down from where some of the early Barney eps were filmed. They actually still make them, but I think there was just a sound studio in the garage when they sold the house a few years ago. It's known as the Barney house.

According to one translator I found:

Podría llegar al próximo paciente para nosotros, por favor?

Correct.

Such an approach may not be practical in an LBS setting.

Easter overnight bikecamping report:

Couple of miles outside of the city limits. North White Mountain snowpack status : still a sliver of cornice snow left.

Up on the plateau. My right knee got destroyed on the climb up, maybe that will go away. Rain was constantly threatening but only a little bit of mist made it to the ground.

I camped out about 15 miles before planned campsite, to give my knee more rest. This campsite was WAY better anyway.

Such a jarring sign to read after only being awake for 30 minutes. These signs are usually just for cars, but I always wonder how bad the washout can be up ahead.

I made it to the bridge! Big Island Bridge, that is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ETR_Big_Island_Bridge

Luckily it is still crossable on foot and bike. Although you'd have to hoist your bike over a 4' barbed wire fence to get up to it. There is a pedestrian entry but it's only about 1' wide passage through a chicane.

Happy sheep just outside of Rock Springs, along the Lincoln Highway.

Cool, @LesterOfPuppets. I've always wondered what bicycling on Mars would look like.

Great pics Les! Why is that landscape so treeless?

(I refuse to google.)

I am thinking because crappy soil and/or insufficient seasonal rainfall.

rjones28 04-20-17 10:14 AM

Looks like a great trip Lester.

Nice pics.

LAJ 04-20-17 10:16 AM

This area is considered the High Desert.

My pal visited Denver, and he asked me where all the trees were, and I was confused. I then visited him in Washington state, and realized why he asked.
