We could make it out of steel. Would that be hard enough for you?

Notwithstanding the meh bibs I was wearing, it was my best ride in well over a year. Pushed hard into the headwind, and used the tailwind when I turned around. 16.1 mph on city streets for 20 miles. Not too bad for an old fart, solo, and with only half a heart pumping.

So you think that Billy should get the neighbors to pay for the compressor?

Or rent one. I think we just have a standard nail gun. I'm not sure what screws we use for it, though.
Bam, boom, bam I'm done with it! Thanks for all the help guys, it's great to be able to talk things out with friends. :thumb: |

I've given up on counting dead armadillos along the road.
At home it's just raccoons, possums, squirrels, skunks, rabbits and coyotes. Plus we saw two (not dead) Catalina Island foxes. No road kill at all. :) |

Yeah but I'm guessing the cost of that machine is prohibitive. My issue is, if the costs get too high I might as well be replacing sections. THEN I have the headache and expense of hiring help, then staining to match existing. :crash: Headaches!

I don't think we've gotten into the fine art of post setting, yet. :innocent:

So I'm sitting down with a chili burrito (the chili was home made, last night - always better the next day) and a beer when the wife informs me that we'll be having people over at 3:30 or so... which is about the time that I was planning on being on the bike. Which means that, if I want to get in a ride, I need to get out pretty much right now. With a burrito and beer sitting in my stomach.

I think I'm just going to get a Rigid gun and compressor, both have good warranties. The gun shoots 1/4" crown, 18Ga staples up to 1-1/2" long, that's about exactly what I need. Can get them conveniently from the local Home Depot, along with the ammo.

We haven't done any birds in a while. There's a bird in this picture. He's 700' away so excuse the softness.

***Spoiler alert***
Thank you for putting him in the exact center of the frame. Otherwise I would have never found him on my tiny phone screen. |

Here's a photo sequence you won't see every day.
This is the closeup of that male peregrine falcon hunting from a cliff. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...e-H-0672-2.jpg All of a sudden the bird jumps off the damn cliff with little regard for life or limb ... http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...ine-H-0674.jpg ... and plunges down towards some apparent critter. Can't you just hear him saying "Bonzaaaaiiiiiiii"! http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...ine-H-0676.jpg For a moment I lost track of him. It's almost impossible to follow a bird through a long lens moving at that speed. Peregrines are know to reach speeds of over 175 mph during their stoops to strike and kill birds in mid-air. Seconds later I found him leveling off but still peering down for the prey which perhaps ducked out of the way just in the nick of time. Or he could be scanning the ground for the stunned bird which he knocked out of the air, impossible to say as I lost track of the action. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...ine-H-0682.jpg Screw the lack of photographic aesthetics, I was just thrilled to have captured the sequence. The interesting thing to me was how he launched the attack. Usually when birds take flight they crouch a little, raise their wings high over their head, then push downward with the wings to generate lift off the perch. But here, since he wanted to head downward, he just jumped off to plunge head first. The other amazing thing is how they can reach such diving speed using gravity alone. Incredible. |

That diving pose looks a lot like a ski jumper. I wonder if that is where the skiers got the idea.
And you know, 32 ft/sec/sec adds up fast. Three seconds of straight down and he would be going over 60 mph assuming no air drag. So not quite that fast, but pretty close. |

Rode to the market today in tights. A cashier told me that, unlike many men who wear them, I have the body for tights. Kudos to me!
