We can't object to paying taxes, and user fees, then ***** about the lack of money spent on infrastructure.

I don't disagree with you at all. In California, Governor Brown has just proposed new increases in both vehicle registrations costs and taxes on gasoline (including diesel) in order to deal with our failing roadways. It has already elicited quite an outcry, not only from the usual suspects--the reflexive anti-tax people--but also from the general populace who would more normally support such measures. We'll see how it goes.

I just think that economic realities combined with resource issues will make it very difficult for us to improve our infrastructure in any meaningful way, going forward--especially on the national level.

Get your gravel bike while you still can.

Okay, so all this talk about disc golf is a runnig joke, right? It doesn't really exist...does it?

BillyD 04-04-17 12:19 PM

It must be an other-than-northeast thing. Or a young 'un thing. But I have never heard of disc golf in my life. :wtf:

Sorry, no politics in the Addiction thread, please. Tax discussions are virtually bound to get political. :)

I grew up in Philly and had never heard of it until I went to prep school in New England. We didn't have a course so guys would play by picking object like trees to serve as "holes." I think I saw my first course when I was in law school at Pitt.

Looks like he'll be replacing Phil Simms as the #1 announcer on CBS.

So all of the NFL is calling Romo a hero, because Simms is, just, the worst. I happen to believe he's suffering from significant brain damage, but most others believe he's just insane. Here's some good quotes from Simms:

Simms seems like he is announcing with significant brain damage. Here's a collection of good Simms quotes:

Just from last season:

"Shazier he's not one of the fastest guys, but... he's... definitely one of the fastest."

"They have everybody up and are going to make him throw the football." -this analysis was followed by a handoff and a rushing touchdown

"Aaron Rodgers pulled out too quick."

"Former first round pick! From... I forgot what school."

"This is what the offense is... formations, screens, passes."

"Can they make the tackles? In other words, can they make the tackles."

"Rubbing back these days, 'oh you can't give them the load' and then these..." end of sentence

Phil: "What are you going to do without me next weekend?!" Nantz: "Big down here for the Steelers."

Some of the best all time

"If I was the Saints, I would not blitz" Porter Super Bowl Pick Six ensues "Well, I said not to blitz and they brought everybody"

“He was drafted in baseball so it's no surprise he's a good receiver.”

"When you don't control the line of scrimmage, you don't control the situation. And that can create a situation."

"McGlynn has… what's the words to describe him… a personality."

"That's a good safe play… oh… he fell down."

"Jim, we can see this Miami Dolphense."

"I'd go ahead and kick a field goal because you aren't a good run team."….(Next play is a running TD)….. "Great play call by Caldwell."

"He likes to keep his hands in the pockets. As long as it stays warm and moist it doesn't matter how cold it is out there"

"By putting Clay Matthews inside they've learned a lot which they already knew."

“If I was the cowboys here, I’d run it on 3rd and short” …(Cowboys pass for 1st down)….”That’s the right play call Jim”

"I think they are going to mark this one where he was tackled."

"Kind of like when… Kurt Warner had the… 'Fastest Game on Turf here."

"Denver knows this offense well" - Phil Simms while Denver was on offense

"Why throw it and get a first down?"

"Peyton Manning threw it to his receiver's hands on purpose!"

"The Formation tells Peyton they will drop into zone coverage...Wait, I was wrong, it's a blitz."

"In order to win, Flacco need to the throw the ball and the receivers need to catch."

"If that was a bowling score, he'd be...he'd be doing well" (On Joe Flacco's completions)

"It's kind of a trend we see in the NFL, 'hey, let's play some defense.'"

"When you're in this air, you're lighter, you're faster"

"I stood behind Matt Ryan during pre-game and I said, 'boy is he flushin.'"

"Jim because of that penalty he lost a half a foot or whatever."

"Jim, punting from your own 30 IS a victory!"

"Quarterbacks are amazing. It's like hitting your first shot in basketball."

"When the coverage is tight, Jim, It's… you geehh… you gotta cehhh…. cah… contest throws."

"As a quarterback, can you throw it where you are looking?"

And a personal favorite:

"This year they went and drafted a rookie"

Is that right? Phil Simms isn't that bad in my opinion. If they want these guys to keep yammering for an entire 3 hour football game, they can't expect them all to be gems.

Jon Gruden is who they need to get rid of. He is truly awful, and apparently nobody has told him. :crash: :trainwreck:

George Costanza played frolf briefly. Surely you remembe that?

This is kind of stunning, actually. How could a man about town like myself have totally missed this? I just texted my son for an explanation.

LAJ 04-04-17 01:56 PM

If Collinsworth would leave, I could watch the Broncos on TV, and actually listen to the TV, instead of the radio.

Are you not entertained??!

I went off NFL because of Madden and never looked back. I like to listen to the Superbowl on radio on occasion.
